• Panoramic sunroof standard
• 360 degree camera standard

Summary

This 2022 MG ZS LUX represents a well-equipped entry into the compact SUV segment, featuring the top-tier LUX trim which adds essential comfort for the GCC climate. While the mileage reflects a high-usage history consistent with long-range regional commuting, the car's 4-year age and GCC-specific cooling systems make it a robust choice for city driving. The vibrant red exterior offers a bold alternative to the common white and silver fleet, while maintaining reasonable resale demand in the UAE. As a LUX model, it includes premium tech like a 360-degree camera and panoramic roof that smaller crossovers in this price bracket often lack. This model stands out for its high feature-to-price ratio, making it an ideal choice for buyers seeking modern cabin technology without the premium badge cost.

This Car vs Other 2022 MG ZSs

At 142,000 km, this vehicle has covered significantly more distance than the average GCC annual usage of 20,000–25,000 km. However, this is typical for vehicles used for inter-emirate travel, and the 4-year-old mechanicals remain widely supported by MG's extensive regional service network. The Red exterior is a distinctive choice that stands out in the used market, offering a more personalized look than standard white or silver variants.

LUX vs Lower Trims

The LUX trim is the range-topper for the 1.5L engine, adding a full panoramic sunroof and 360-degree parking camera that are not available on the STD or COM trims. Inside, you benefit from leather-style upholstery and a 6-speaker audio system, replacing the basic fabric and 4-speaker setups found in lower versions. It also features a digital instrument cluster and 17-inch alloy wheels, providing a more premium aesthetic and better tech integration.

ZS vs Segment Rivals

Compared to the Renault Duster and JAC JS3, the MG ZS leads with a more modern interior design and a superior infotainment interface featuring standard Apple CarPlay. While the Duster offers a more rugged off-road focus, the ZS provides a smoother on-road experience for urban commuting in Dubai or Riyadh. Its compact turning circle and 360-degree camera make it easier to navigate tight parking spaces than its larger-bodied competitors.

Running Costs & Resale

The 1.5L engine delivers an efficient 5.8 L/100km on the combined cycle, making it one of the most economical non-hybrid SUVs for long-distance GCC highway driving. MG has established a strong presence across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Oman, ensuring that authorized service centers and spare parts are readily available at competitive prices. While Chinese brands typically depreciate faster than Japanese rivals, the high equipment level of the LUX trim helps maintain better value retention at the 3-to-5-year mark.

Performance & Capability

With 118 hp and 150 Nm of torque, the ZS is tuned for efficiency and smooth city cruising rather than high-speed sprints. The CVT automatic transmission provides a seamless power delivery that is well-suited to the stop-start traffic of major GCC metros. For weekend getaways, the front-wheel-drive setup handles well-maintained gravel tracks and long highway stretches with stability, while the 170 km/h top speed ensures it keeps pace comfortably on high-speed arterial roads.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is designed to combat the GCC summer with an efficient air conditioning system and a large panoramic sunroof that features a heat-reflecting shade. The LUX trim’s leatherette seats are durable and easy to maintain, while the 10.1-inch touchscreen serves as a central hub for navigation and media. Ample legroom for five passengers and a 448-litre boot ensure it meets the practical needs of small families or daily commuters.

Safety

The 2022 ZS LUX comes equipped with a comprehensive safety suite including six airbags and a 360-degree surround-view camera for enhanced visibility. Active safety features include Tire Pressure Monitoring (TPMS), which is vital for high-temperature desert driving, alongside Electronic Stability Control and Hill Start Assist. These systems provide a secure driving environment on both slick city roads and sandy highway margins.

The bottom line

For the buyer prioritizing modern cabin technology and fuel efficiency, this LUX trim MG ZS offers an unbeatable feature list for its age, despite the higher mileage. It is a smart, tech-forward opportunity for a driver looking to maximize their budget in the pre-owned SUV market.
