Summary

This low-mileage 2022 Toyota Land Cruiser GXR represents a premier opportunity in the GCC used market, offering the perfect balance of legendary reliability and modern refinement. With just over 21,000 km, this vehicle has barely begun its lifecycle in a region where these SUVs are expected to clock hundreds of thousands of kilometers with ease. The GXR trim is the sweet spot for many buyers, providing essential luxury and technology without the added complexity of higher-tier electronics. Its unique brown exterior is a sophisticated choice that resists the appearance of desert dust better than darker shades while maintaining strong resale appeal. Compared to rivals, the Land Cruiser offers unmatched peace of mind thanks to the most extensive service network in the Middle East. For a GCC buyer, the combination of its nearly new condition and the 4.0L V6 engine’s proven durability makes it a secure long-term asset.

This Car vs Other 2022 Land Cruisers

When looking at the 2022 model year in the GCC, the average mileage typically sits between 40,000 and 50,000 km given the long-distance commuting common between emirates. At 21,455 km, this specific vehicle is significantly below the regional average, effectively offering a near-new driving experience and several years of additional mechanical life before major servicing is required. The brown exterior is an understated yet premium choice that stands out in a sea of white and silver vehicles, yet it remains highly practical for the local climate as it does not absorb heat as aggressively as black paint. Being a GCC-spec model, it carries the specific cooling and filtration systems designed for extreme heat, which is a major value differentiator compared to imported units. This low usage suggests the car was likely a secondary family vehicle, ensuring the interior and mechanical components remain in pristine condition.

GXR vs Lower Trims

The GXR trim level is a significant step up from the base EXR, introducing several key features that GCC buyers prioritize for both comfort and status. It adds more sophisticated interior finishes and enhanced technology interfaces that make daily driving in heavy traffic much more manageable. Buyers of the GXR benefit from upgraded alloy wheels and more aggressive exterior styling cues that give the vehicle a more commanding presence on the road. Inside, the climate control system is often more advanced, ensuring that all seven passengers remain comfortable during the peak of the Arabian summer. This trim also typically includes more premium upholstery and a better-integrated infotainment system, providing a luxury feel that base models lack. It is widely considered the most sensible investment because it retains a higher percentage of its value by appealing to both private families and corporate fleets.

Land Cruiser vs Segment Rivals

In the GCC, the Land Cruiser primarily competes with the Nissan Patrol and the Chevrolet Tahoe, but it holds a distinct advantage in terms of long-term residual value. While the Patrol offers a different interior aesthetic, the Land Cruiser is often preferred for its superior off-road geometry and more robust cooling systems which are vital for desert excursions. Compared to American rivals like the Tahoe, the Land Cruiser offers a more compact footprint that is easier to maneuver in tight urban parking while providing similar interior utility. The Land Cruiser also boasts a larger fuel tank capacity than many European SUVs in this segment, which is a critical feature for those driving long stretches between cities like Dubai and Salalah. Its reputation for 'unbreakable' mechanicals means that even in the most remote areas of the GCC, you are never far from a mechanic who knows exactly how to service this vehicle.

Running Costs & Resale

Running a 4.0L V6 Land Cruiser in the GCC is remarkably predictable, with fuel consumption averaging around 11-13L per 100km depending on how much time is spent in city traffic versus on the highway. While the V6 is more efficient than the larger V8s of the past, it still provides the necessary torque for heavy-duty use without the premium fuel requirements of European turbocharged engines. Service intervals are typically every 10,000 km, and the cost of parts is among the lowest in the SUV segment due to the massive volume of these vehicles on the road. Toyota’s authorized service network is the most comprehensive in the region, with major centers in every GCC country from Saudi Arabia to Oman. From a resale perspective, the Land Cruiser is the gold standard; it typically loses only 8-10% of its value annually, whereas luxury competitors can drop by 15-20%. At the three-year mark, a well-maintained, low-mileage GXR like this one often commands a price significantly higher than any other SUV in its class.

Performance & Capability

The 271 hp V6 engine is a masterpiece of reliability, designed specifically to operate in ambient temperatures that can exceed 50°C without losing performance. The 0-100 km/h sprint is handled smoothly by the automatic transmission, providing plenty of power for merging onto fast-moving UAE highways. Off-road, the Land Cruiser remains the king of the dunes, featuring a genuine All Wheel Drive system with low-range gearing and advanced traction management that allows even novice drivers to navigate sand with confidence. With a generous ground clearance and impressive approach and departure angles, it handles rocky wadis and soft sand with equal ease. The suspension is tuned for a 'magic carpet' ride, absorbing the imperfections of gravel tracks while remaining stable and composed at 120 km/h on the E11 highway. Whether it is a weekend camping trip in Liwa or a daily commute in Riyadh, the performance is consistent, quiet, and incredibly dependable.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin of this 7-seater SUV is designed for the high-intensity usage patterns of GCC families, featuring three rows of spacious seating and a powerful multi-zone air conditioning system. Toyota’s AC units are world-renowned for their ability to chill a large cabin in minutes, even after the car has been parked in direct sunlight. The GXR trim provides high-quality materials on all touchpoints, ensuring that long drives across the desert are fatigue-free for both the driver and passengers. With all five doors offering wide entry points, loading children into the third row or fitting bulky shopping from the mall is effortless. Cabin insulation has been significantly improved in this generation, drastically reducing road and wind noise during high-speed highway cruising. The brown exterior is complemented by a thoughtful interior color palette that feels airy and spacious, making it a pleasant environment for the whole family during weekend road trips.

Safety

Safety is a paramount concern for the Land Cruiser, which holds a 5-Star NCAP rating and comes equipped with a comprehensive suite of active protection systems. The vehicle features multiple airbags and a reinforced chassis designed to protect occupants in the event of a collision, which is essential on high-speed regional roads. Standard stability and traction control systems are specifically calibrated to handle sudden changes in surface grip, such as moving from tarmac to sand or gravel. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alerts provide vital assistance when navigating the busy, multi-lane highways of major GCC cities. The braking system is robust, providing consistent stopping power even when the vehicle is fully loaded with seven passengers and luggage. Additionally, the high seating position provides the driver with exceptional visibility, allowing for better anticipation of traffic flow and potential hazards on the road.

The bottom line

This 2022 Land Cruiser GXR is the ideal choice for a buyer who wants the reliability of a new vehicle without the initial depreciation hit. Given its exceptionally low mileage and GCC-specific preparation, it stands as one of the most sensible and secure automotive investments currently available in the region.
