Toyota Land Cruiser VXR 3.5L Twin turbo Petrol 2022

Highlights

• 409 hp from a 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6
• Low-range transfer case with three locking differentials
• 110-litre fuel tank standard

Summary

This GCC-spec Land Cruiser VXR is a standout opportunity, combining Toyota's legendary durability with the top-tier luxury typically reserved for premium sedans. The transition to the twin-turbo V6 provides significantly more torque for highway overtaking compared to the previous V8, while the black exterior remains a high-demand, strong-resale color in the local market. With mileage that is well below the typical 25,000 km annual average for the UAE, this 2022 model is barely broken in and remains mechanically fresh. For a GCC buyer, this represents the safest capital investment in the SUV segment, offering a level of cross-border serviceability and parts availability that rivals simply cannot match. It is the definitive choice for those who need a family workhorse that can handle both the school run and the Liwa dunes with equal composure.

This Car vs Other 2022 Land Cruisers

At just over 40,000 km, this vehicle has covered significantly less ground than the average 2022 model, which typically enters the market with 60,000 to 75,000 km in the GCC. The black exterior is one of the top three most liquid colors in the UAE and Saudi Arabia, ensuring faster resale and better price retention than rarer shades. Being a GCC-spec vehicle, it features the high-capacity cooling system and regional filtration necessary to maintain long-term reliability in 45°C+ temperatures.

VXR vs Lower Trims

The VXR trim sits at the top of the range, offering a major tech and comfort upgrade over the EXR and GXR models. It adds the superior 12.3-inch infotainment display, a 14-speaker JBL premium audio system, and a 360-degree panoramic view monitor as standard. Crucially for the GCC climate, the VXR includes ventilated seats for both front and second-row passengers, along with a four-zone climate control system that ensures the third row remains cool during peak summer drives.

Land Cruiser vs Segment Rivals

When compared to the Nissan Patrol, the Land Cruiser leads with its body-on-frame GA-F platform and a more advanced 10-speed automatic transmission that optimizes torque delivery. Its 110-litre fuel tank provides a superior cruising range for long-distance travel between emirates or cross-border trips to Oman and Saudi Arabia. While European rivals offer high tech, the Land Cruiser leads the segment in technical off-road hardware, featuring a dedicated Crawl Control system and Multi-Terrain Select as standard.

Running Costs & Resale

The 3.5-litre twin-turbo engine is designed for efficiency, averaging approximately 10.7 L/100km, though GCC city traffic will see figures closer to 15 L/100km. Toyota's authorized service network is the most extensive in the region, with centers in every major city across the UAE and the wider Gulf, ensuring low maintenance downtime. Historically, the Land Cruiser retains 65-75% of its value after three years in the GCC, significantly outperforming European luxury SUVs in the same price bracket.

Performance & Capability

The 409 hp twin-turbo V6 delivers 650 Nm of torque, enabling the Land Cruiser to reach 100 km/h in approximately 6.7 seconds—a remarkable figure for a full-size SUV. This power is paired with a sophisticated 4WD system featuring front, center, and rear locking differentials, giving it unmatched capability in soft sand and technical terrain. On the highway, the 10-speed transmission keeps the engine in its power band for effortless overtaking even when fully loaded with seven passengers.

Comfort & Cabin

Inside, the VXR provides a three-row sanctuary with premium leather upholstery and wood-grain accents throughout the cabin. The four-zone AC is specifically tuned for the Gulf heat, complemented by a factory-integrated refrigerator in the center console to keep drinks chilled. Families will appreciate the dual-screen rear entertainment system and the acoustic glass that significantly reduces wind noise during high-speed desert highway cruising.

Safety

This VXR trim comes standard with the full Toyota Safety Sense suite, featuring Adaptive Radar Cruise Control and Lane Tracing Assist for relaxed long-distance driving. For city safety, it includes Blind Spot Monitoring, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, and a 360-degree camera system to assist in parking this large SUV. The vehicle is also equipped with 10 airbags and Vehicle Stability Control, providing a comprehensive safety net for both highway and off-road environments.

The bottom line

For the buyer who wants the highest specification and the lowest risk, this low-mileage VXR is the benchmark. It offers the perfect balance of luxury flagship features and the unmatched regional resale value that only a GCC-spec Land Cruiser can provide.
