Summary

This 2023 Changan UNI-T SPORT stands out in the GCC market as a futuristic crossover that balances aggressive styling with practical daily efficiency. While its mileage is higher than average for its age, it represents a strong value opportunity for buyers seeking modern tech like a 12.8-inch display and facial recognition at a used-market price point. The SPORT trim is highly desirable in the region due to its orange exterior accents and upgraded 20-inch wheels that offer better road presence than the base Elite trim. Black is a consistently strong resale color across the UAE and Saudi Arabia, making this a safe long-term choice. For the GCC buyer, the standard ventilated seats and powerful air purification system are essential for maintaining comfort during peak summer months.

This Car vs Other 2023 UNI-Ts

At 145,000 km, this vehicle has been driven more extensively than the typical 25,000 km annual GCC average, suggesting heavy highway use which often results in less wear on the transmission and brakes compared to city idling. Its black exterior is a premier resale choice in the local market, holding value significantly better than louder colors. The mechanical condition is bolstered by Changan's growing service network, making high-mileage examples easier to maintain today than in previous years.

SPORT vs Lower Trims

The SPORT trim adds significant value over the Elite by including a comprehensive Level 2 ADAS suite with Integrated Adaptive Cruise Control and Automatic Emergency Braking. It also upgrades the cabin experience with ventilated front seats and a 360-degree camera system, both of which are high-priority features for UAE drivers. Visually, the SPORT is distinguished by 20-inch alloy wheels and signature orange accents that give it a much sharper presence on the road.

UNI-T vs Segment Rivals

The UNI-T competes directly with the Kia Sportage and Hyundai Tucson, leading both in terms of standard cabin technology and futuristic interior design. Its 300 Nm of torque outclasses many naturally aspirated rivals in the same price bracket, providing better overtaking capability on fast-moving highways like the E11. Additionally, the UNI-T's flat-folding rear seats offer a more versatile cargo area for family road trips between emirates.

Running Costs & Resale

The 1.5L turbo engine delivers a combined fuel economy of approximately 6.3L/100km, making it one of the most efficient crossovers for a daily Dubai-Abu Dhabi commute. Changan has an extensive authorized service network across the UAE and Saudi Arabia, with recommended service intervals typically every 10,000 km. While Chinese brands generally face higher initial depreciation than Japanese rivals, the UNI-T SPORT maintains a steady residual value due to its high tech-to-price ratio.

Performance & Capability

Producing 300 Nm of torque from just 1,250 rpm, the UNI-T offers responsive low-end power that is perfect for navigating urban traffic and highway merges. The 7-speed wet dual-clutch transmission is specifically tuned for smooth shifts, avoiding the overheating issues sometimes found in dry-clutch systems during hot GCC summers. It features selectable drive modes, including a Sport mode that sharpens throttle response for more spirited driving on open roads.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is centered around a massive 12.8-inch touchscreen and a 12.3-inch digital cockpit, powered by a high-speed Snapdragon chip for lag-free operation. GCC-specific comfort is handled by an automatic climate control system with dedicated rear vents and a built-in air purifier with a PM2.5 filter. The integrated sport seats are finished in high-quality faux leather, providing excellent lateral support for long-distance highway comfort.

Safety

This SPORT trim is equipped with a full suite of active safety features, including Lane Keeping Assist, Blind Spot Monitoring, and Forward Collision Warning. It achieved a five-star C-NCAP safety rating, supported by high-strength steel construction and six airbags as standard. The 360-degree camera with 3D rendering is particularly useful for maneuvering in tight mall parking spaces across the GCC.

The bottom line

This 2023 Changan UNI-T SPORT is a high-spec, tech-forward crossover for the budget-conscious buyer who refuses to settle for a basic interior. It offers premium driver-assistance features and ventilated seats that make it a highly practical and modern choice for the UAE's unique driving conditions.
