Summary

This GAC GS4 represents a smart middle ground for GCC buyers, offering modern turbo performance with mileage that is noticeably lower than the typical 25,000 km per year average in the UAE. The black exterior is a perennial favorite in the local resale market, ensuring the car remains desirable for its next owner. As the top-tier GL trim, this SUV is packed with features like a 360-degree camera and a sunroof that makes city driving and highway cruising far more comfortable. It is an ideal pick for a small family or professional looking for a contemporary crossover that balances running costs with a high-spec cabin.

This Car vs Other 2023 GS4s

With just over 42,000 km, this GS4 has been driven significantly less than many of its counterparts in the UAE market, where high-speed highway commutes quickly inflate mileage. Its black-on-black color combination is one of the most liquid configurations for the GCC, holding its value better than louder or niche colors. Choosing this specific unit means you are getting a well-preserved example that hasn't yet faced the higher-mileage wear typical of three-year-old SUVs in the region.

GL vs Lower Trims

The GL trim serves as the flagship for the GS4 lineup, adding premium touches that lower trims like the GS or GB lack. You get the 360-degree panoramic camera system, which is invaluable for tight parking in Dubai Mall or downtown Riyadh, along with a power sunroof and upgraded leatherette upholstery. The GL also features larger 18-inch alloy wheels and an enhanced digital display, providing a much more executive feel inside the cabin compared to the base models.

GS4 vs Segment Rivals

The GS4 is often cross-shopped with the Hyundai Tucson and MG HS, but it distinguishes itself with a highly efficient 1.5L turbo engine that delivers better real-world economy than many larger naturally aspirated rivals. It offers one of the most generous rear legroom figures in its class, making it more suitable for long drives between emirates with adult passengers. Furthermore, the GAC's build quality and interior materials feel noticeably more premium than other budget-oriented sub-compact SUVs.

Running Costs & Resale

Fuel efficiency is a strong suit, with the 1.5L turbo engine delivering approximately 16.4 km/L under mixed driving conditions, making it an excellent commuter across the GCC. GAC has established a robust service presence through major distributors like Gargash in the UAE and Aljomaih in Saudi Arabia, ensuring parts availability and expert maintenance. While Chinese brands typically depreciate slightly faster than Japanese stalwarts, the GS4 has shown consistent value retention due to its J.D. Power quality awards and growing brand trust in the region.

Performance & Capability

The 1.5-litre turbocharged engine produces a healthy 169 hp, allowing the GS4 to reach 100 km/h in a verified 8.5 seconds—plenty of punch for confident highway overtaking. It features a smooth 6-speed automatic transmission that handles stop-start city traffic in Riyadh or Dubai with far more refinement than jerky dual-clutch alternatives. While it is a front-wheel-drive crossover, the 150mm ground clearance and multiple drive modes make it perfectly capable of handling gravel tracks and sandy weekend routes.

Comfort & Cabin

Inside, the GS4 GL provides a spacious 5-seater environment with a flat rear floor that genuinely accommodates three adults. The air conditioning system is specifically engineered for the GCC, maintaining a cool cabin even when temperatures soar past 45°C. You also benefit from a 470-litre boot that expands significantly with flat-folding seats, alongside modern tech like a 10.1-inch infotainment screen and high-quality acoustic glass that keeps the cabin quiet at highway speeds.

Safety

Safety is comprehensive on this GL trim, featuring a suite of 6 airbags and advanced electronic stability controls. Essential for GCC highways, it includes a 360-degree camera for better visibility, blind-spot monitoring, and tire pressure monitoring to keep you safe during long summer drives. The GS4 is built on a high-strength steel chassis that has consistently earned top safety ratings in collision testing, providing peace of mind for family use.

The bottom line

For the buyer who wants a high-spec, low-mileage SUV without the premium price tag of a Japanese rival, this GS4 GL is a standout opportunity in today's market.
