Summary

This 2023 Toyota Hiace GL represents a high-utility asset for GCC operators, combining low mileage for its age with the legendary durability of a diesel powertrain. The white exterior is the most practical choice for the region's climate, offering superior heat management and the strongest resale protection in the UAE and Saudi markets. As a GL trim, it provides a more refined passenger environment than standard cargo versions, making it ideal for corporate or tourist transport. Toyota's wide service availability across all Emirates ensures minimal downtime for business users. This specific unit strikes the perfect balance between mechanical simplicity and modern reliability for long-term ownership.

This Car vs Other 2023 Hiaces

With just over 43,000 km, this Hiace has been driven significantly less than the typical 60,000+ km annual average for commercial buses in the GCC. The white exterior is the top-performing resale color in the local market, ensuring it holds its value better than darker alternatives. For a 2023 model, this represents a low-wear opportunity in a segment where high-mileage examples are the norm.

GL vs Lower Trims

The GL trim upgrades the basic transport experience with body-colored bumpers and chrome garnishes that present a more professional image. Inside, it replaces basic vinyl with more durable fabric upholstery and includes essential rear cooling vents that are non-negotiable for passenger comfort in the GCC summer. These additions make the GL far more suitable for hotel or staff transport than the entry-level DX or standard cargo variants.

Hiace vs Segment Rivals

The Hiace maintains a significant edge over the Nissan Urvan and Hyundai H1 due to its superior parts availability and authorized service footprint spanning from Salalah to Kuwait. While rivals may offer different cabin layouts, the Toyota's 2.5L diesel engine is specifically tuned for the high-torque, heavy-load demands of regional logistics. Its reputation for cooling system reliability in 45-degree heat is a primary reason it remains the preferred choice for GCC fleet managers.

Running Costs & Resale

The 2.5L diesel engine is highly efficient for long-haul highway drives between Emirates, where fuel costs can be optimized compared to petrol V6 alternatives. Toyota service intervals are typically set at 10,000 km, supported by the most extensive authorized network in the region. Historically, the Hiace retains approximately 60-68% of its value after three years in the GCC, outperforming almost all major competitors in the light commercial segment.

Performance & Capability

The 136 hp turbo-diesel engine is built for steady, reliable torque rather than raw speed, providing the pulling power needed for a full passenger load. The rear-wheel-drive configuration is preferred by local operators for better traction when the vehicle is weighted and easier mechanical maintenance. Its 5-speed manual transmission gives drivers total control over gear selection, which is essential for managing engine temperatures and fuel efficiency on long desert highways.

Comfort & Cabin

Configured as a 9+ seater bus, the cabin is designed for passenger flow and maximum cooling efficiency. The air conditioning system is purpose-built for the GCC, featuring dedicated rear vents that ensure the back rows stay comfortable during peak summer heat. The GL trim's upgraded seating materials are specifically chosen to resist wear and tear from frequent daily boarding while providing a softer feel than base commercial models.

Safety

Standard safety features on this GCC-spec Hiace include Anti-lock Braking (ABS) and Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), which are vital for maintaining composure on sand-dusted highways or during sudden stops. The cabin structure is reinforced to protect all passengers, and front airbags come standard for the driver and lead passenger. The inclusion of rear parking sensors helps navigate this large-format bus safely through tight urban loading zones.

The bottom line

For a GCC business or transport operator, this low-mileage 2023 Hiace GL is a risk-free investment that combines the best regional resale color with Toyota’s unmatched diesel reliability.
