• Strong value retention in the GCC used market

Summary

This 2023 Toyota Hiace GL represents a strategic choice for business owners and fleet operators looking for the definitive GCC workhorse. Equipped with the potent 3.5L V6 engine and a manual transmission, it offers a level of durability and driver control that few competitors in the van segment can match. The white exterior is the most sought-after color in the region, ensuring better heat reflection and significantly stronger resale value at the three-year mark. With its low mileage relative to average GCC commercial use, this vehicle is ready for immediate deployment on long-distance inter-city routes. Toyota’s unmatched service network across the UAE and wider Gulf remains the most critical advantage for minimizing operational downtime.

This Car vs Other 2023 Hiaces

While many commercial vans in the region accumulate over 40,000 km annually, this 2023 model sits at a moderate 110,000 km, suggesting it has been used efficiently rather than overworked. Its white exterior is a major resale benefit, consistently attracting higher demand in the GCC used market compared to silver or dark-colored units. Choosing a GCC-spec Hiace ensures the cooling system and cabin insulation are purpose-built for the extreme local summers.

GL vs Lower Trims

The GL trim offers significant upgrades over the entry-level DX, including a chromed front grille, body-colored bumpers, and improved fabric upholstery that withstands high-frequency use. Inside, the GL adds essential comforts like a multi-information display and an upgraded audio system, making it far more suitable for driver-operator use or premium staff transport. It also features a more refined dual-zone air conditioning setup with dedicated rear vents, which is crucial for passenger comfort in the Gulf climate.

Hiace vs Segment Rivals

Compared to the Nissan Urvan or the Hyundai Staria, the Hiace leads in terms of mechanical simplicity and the sheer size of its spare parts market. The 3.5L V6 petrol engine provides a smoother, more powerful highway experience than the smaller powerplants often found in this segment, especially when the vehicle is at full payload. Its rear-wheel-drive layout and body-on-frame construction offer superior longevity on the diverse road surfaces found across the UAE and Saudi Arabia.

Running Costs & Resale

Fuel consumption for the 3.5L V6 averages roughly 12L/100km on the highway, with the 70-litre fuel tank providing a substantial range for trips between Dubai and Abu Dhabi or across the Saudi border. Service intervals are typically every 10,000 km, and with one of the most extensive authorized service networks in the world, maintenance is convenient in every GCC city. The Hiace maintains the highest resale value in its class, often depreciating at only 8-10% annually compared to 15% or more for European rivals.

Performance & Capability

The 3.5L V6 engine delivers a robust 277 hp, ensuring the van never feels underpowered even when carrying its full payload of six passengers and heavy cargo. The 6-speed manual transmission is particularly valued in the GCC for its long-term durability and the ability to maintain optimal torque on inclines or heavy-traffic routes. A standard top speed of 160 km/h is ample for UAE highways, while the rear-wheel-drive configuration ensures balanced handling when fully loaded.

Comfort & Cabin

Configured as a 6-seater, this Hiace offers a spacious cabin layout that prioritizes shoulder room and legroom for all occupants. The air conditioning system is specifically engineered for the 50°C summer peaks, featuring powerful front and rear blowers that cool the entire volume of the van quickly. Durable fabric seats and easy-to-clean flooring reflect the practical requirements of GCC fleet ownership, ensuring the interior remains presentable for years.

Safety

This Hiace is equipped with essential safety systems including Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) to maintain traction on sand-dusted or wet road surfaces. Dual front airbags are standard, and the reinforced body structure is designed to provide maximum protection for occupants. The manual transmission also includes a hill-start assist feature in later GL models, preventing rollback on inclines common in multi-story parking or mountainous regions like Hatta.

The bottom line

For a business seeking a reliable, high-performance van with the best resale potential in the Gulf, this GCC-spec Hiace GL is the definitive choice.
