Summary

This 2024 GAC Empow GL offers a compelling blend of sport-inspired styling and modern cabin technology that punches well above its weight in the sedan segment. With approximately 30,000 km per year, this vehicle has been used as a consistent highway commuter, which is typical for the UAE where long-distance travel between emirates is routine. The Grey exterior is a versatile, high-resale color choice in the GCC, effectively hiding road dust while maintaining a premium aesthetic. As a GL trim, it features high-end comfort additions like ventilated seats that are essential for the local climate. For a buyer looking for a near-new sedan with advanced safety features and sharp performance at a significantly lower entry point than a new model, this listing is a standout choice.

This Car vs Other 2024 Empows

At 60,970 km, this vehicle’s mileage is slightly higher than the average for a two-year-old car but reflects the typical highway usage patterns seen in the GCC. The Grey exterior is one of the most sought-after colors in the UAE and Saudi markets, offering better value retention than bolder, niche colors. This usage level often means the car has spent its life at stable cruising speeds rather than in stop-start city heat.

GL vs Lower Trims

The GL trim is the premium choice in the 1.5L lineup, adding a full suite of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) such as Blind Spot Detection and Lane Keep Assist that are absent on the base GE. Inside, the GL rewards the driver with a 10.25-inch infotainment display, wireless smartphone charging, and a multi-color ambient lighting system. Crucially for the GCC, the GL also upgrades the safety package to 6 airbags and adds ventilated front seats for summer comfort.

Empow vs Segment Rivals

The Empow competes directly with the MG GT and Hyundai Elantra, leading its segment with a 0-100 km/h time of under 7 seconds which outpaces most naturally aspirated rivals. It offers a more tech-focused cabin than the Toyota Corolla, featuring a distinctive dual-screen cockpit and a fighter-jet inspired interior. Its 543-liter boot space is also among the largest in its class, providing superior practicality for family road trips.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel efficiency is a strong point, averaging around 16.1 km/L on the highway and 13 km/L in city traffic. GAC has an extensive authorized service network in the UAE and KSA through major distributors like Gargash and Aljomaih, ensuring parts availability and professional maintenance. The model shows a healthy value retention rate, typically holding about 70% of its value after three years in the local used market.

Performance & Capability

The 1.5L turbocharged engine delivers a punchy 170 hp and 270 Nm of torque, mated to a responsive 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. This powertrain is particularly effective for highway overtaking and maintaining high-speed stability on the long roads between Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Multiple driving modes, including a dedicated 'Sport' mode with an active exhaust sound, allow the driver to customize the experience from a comfortable cruiser to a spirited sedan.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is designed for the high temperatures of the GCC, featuring a powerful multi-zone climate control system and dedicated rear vents for passenger comfort. The GL trim's leather-wrapped sports seats provide excellent support during long drives, while the acoustic glass helps insulate the interior from outside road noise. The inclusion of a power sunroof and high-quality 8-speaker audio system ensures a premium feel for all five occupants.

Safety

Safety is a primary focus for the GL trim, which comes standard with 6 airbags and a 360° camera system for easier parking in tight urban spaces. The ADAS platform includes Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) and Traffic Jam Assist, which are invaluable for reducing driver fatigue during heavy highway traffic. High-strength steel construction and electronic stability systems ensure the vehicle remains composed on varied road surfaces including sand-blown asphalt.

The bottom line

For the tech-savvy professional or young family in the UAE, this Empow GL offers a sports-sedan experience with a full luxury feature set at a fraction of the cost of its Japanese or European rivals.
