Summary

This 2024 Geely Monjaro GK offers a sophisticated driving experience backed by Volvo-derived engineering and a robust 4WD system. Finished in black, a high-demand color for resale in the GCC, this SUV balances premium cabin materials with practical performance for the region's highways. Despite being the base trim, the GK is remarkably well-equipped, featuring a panoramic sunroof and an 8-speaker audio system as standard. For buyers in the UAE and beyond, it represents one of the most refined entries in the mid-size SUV segment, offering a level of comfort and tech that punches well above its price point.

This Car vs Other 2024 Monjaros

With just under 60,000 km, this Monjaro sits at a typical mileage for a two-year-old vehicle in the GCC, where long-distance commuting between emirates is standard. The black exterior is a primary choice for local buyers, ensuring it remains highly liquid in the used market. Unlike many regional examples that may have seen light off-road use, the Monjaro’s monocoque chassis is primarily optimized for the high-speed refinement required for Sheikh Zayed Road journeys.

GK vs Lower Trims

The GK serves as the entry point for the Monjaro range but avoids the 'base model' feel common in the segment. It retains the powerful 2.0TD engine and 8-speed Aisin transmission found in higher trims, along with the 12.3-inch central infotainment screen and panoramic sunroof. While it lacks the 10-speaker Bose system and head-up display of the GF trim, it still provides essentials like ventilated front seats and a 360-degree camera, which are high-value features in the GCC climate.

Monjaro vs Segment Rivals

The Monjaro competes directly with the Hyundai Santa Fe and Kia Sorento, leading the segment with a cabin that utilizes eco-friendly suede and high-quality PVC materials often reserved for luxury brands. Its Volvo-shared Compact Modular Architecture (CMA) provides a more European-tuned ride quality than rivals like the MG RX8. While some Japanese competitors focus on utility, the Monjaro leads on infotainment technology and sheer interior refinement for daily family use.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for the 2.0L turbo engine averages around 8.5 to 11.9 L/100km, depending on the balance of city traffic and highway cruising. Geely’s presence in the UAE via AGMC ensures an extensive authorized service network, with typical service intervals occurring every 10,000 km. While Chinese brands generally face higher initial depreciation than Japanese stalwarts, the Monjaro's strong local demand and premium feel help it retain value better than many other models in its class.

Performance & Capability

Under the hood is a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 235 hp and 350 Nm of torque, enabling a swift 0–100 km/h time of 7.7 seconds. The BorgWarner 4WD system provides a balanced 50:50 torque distribution when needed, offering confidence during weekend trips to the desert periphery or handling heavy rain on coastal roads. The 8-speed automatic transmission delivers smooth shifts, making it an excellent long-distance cruiser for cross-border trips.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is a standout feature, offering 5-seat capacity with dual-zone automatic climate control and dedicated rear vents to combat extreme summer heat. Front occupants benefit from 8-way power-adjustable seats with ventilation, while the panoramic sunroof adds an airy feel to the darkened interior. The 12.3-inch touchscreen and digital instrument cluster provide a seamless tech experience, complemented by acoustic insulation that keeps the cabin quiet at highway speeds.

Safety

Standard safety equipment on the GK trim includes a comprehensive six-airbag system and a 360-degree camera for effortless parking in tight urban spaces. Active systems such as Adaptive Cruise Control and Lane Keeping Assist make long desert highway drives safer and less fatiguing. The vehicle also features electronic stability control and hill descent control, ensuring stability across varying GCC road surfaces from sand-blown bypasses to high-speed multi-lane highways.

The bottom line

This 2024 Monjaro GK is the ideal choice for a tech-conscious family seeking European-level refinement and strong 4WD performance without the luxury badge premium. With its desirable color and complete GCC service history, it offers a secure and stylish entry into the modern SUV market.
