Summary

This Geely Cityray GC represents a compelling entry into the modern urban SUV segment, offering a sophisticated tech-led cabin that feels years ahead of its price point. With its sleek grey finish—a highly practical and popular choice for maintaining resale value in the GCC—this model bridges the gap between the compact Coolray and the larger Starray. The 1.5-litre turbocharged engine delivers a balanced driving experience that is equally suited for the fast-paced multi-lane highways of the UAE and the stop-start traffic of Riyadh. For a buyer looking for a brand-new 2027 model year vehicle, the Cityray stands out by including high-end features like a vertical 13.2-inch infotainment screen as standard equipment. It is an ideal choice for young professionals or small families who prioritize modern aesthetics and segment-leading cargo space without the premium price tag of established rivals.

This Car vs Other 2027 Cityrays

As a 2027 model year vehicle with effectively delivery mileage, this Cityray sits at the very beginning of its lifecycle in the GCC market. The grey exterior is a strategic choice for the region, offering better heat management than darker shades and strong liquidity in the used market. Being the newest iteration, it benefits from the latest Geely Galaxy OS 2.0 software updates, ensuring a smoother tech experience compared to early production units.

GC vs Lower Trims

The GC serves as the well-appointed entry point for the Cityray lineup, uniquely front-loading premium features that GCC buyers value, such as a large 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster and a 13.2-inch 2K resolution central display. Unlike basic trims in competitive models, the GC includes keyless entry and a height-adjustable driver's seat with a memory function as standard. While higher trims add a panoramic roof and 360-degree cameras, the GC retains the same potent 1.5T powertrain and massive 571-litre boot capacity.

Cityray vs Segment Rivals

The Cityray leads rivals like the Nissan Kicks and Chery Tiggo 4 Pro in terms of raw interior technology and cargo practicality, offering one of the largest boots in the subcompact category. Its 2,701 mm wheelbase provides superior rear legroom compared to the Hyundai Creta, making it a more viable family car for weekend trips between emirates. Additionally, the standard 7-speed wet dual-clutch transmission offers a more engaging and responsive drive than the CVTs commonly found in Japanese competitors.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption is highly competitive for the GCC, averaging approximately 6.3 L/100km, which translates to excellent range from the 51-litre tank during long desert highway hauls. Geely’s expanding partnership with AGMC in the UAE and strong presence across Saudi Arabia ensures that authorized service centers and spare parts are readily available. The brand's rapid growth in the region has stabilized depreciation rates, with the Cityray expected to hold value well due to its high standard tech suite and modern styling.

Performance & Capability

The 1.5-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder engine produces a stout 172 hp and 290 Nm of torque, enabling a swift 0–100 km/h sprint in just 7.9 seconds. This performance is particularly noticeable when overtaking at highway speeds or merging into fast-moving traffic on the E11. While primarily an urban crossover, the 200 mm ground clearance provides peace of mind when navigating unpaved sandy tracks or high speed bumps common in regional residential areas. Multiple driving modes—including Sport and Smart—allow you to tailor the steering and throttle response to the environment.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is designed around a 'tech-forward' philosophy, dominated by a vertically oriented 13.2-inch touchscreen with anti-glare coating that remains legible even under the harsh GCC sun. Rear passengers benefit from dedicated A/C vents, a critical feature for maintaining comfort during the peak summer months. The interior uses high-quality soft-touch materials and acoustic glass to isolate the cabin from road noise, providing a refined environment for long cross-border drives. Practicality is a highlight, with 39 dedicated storage cubbies scattered throughout the interior to manage family essentials.

Safety

Safety is managed through a comprehensive suite of active and passive systems, including Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Traction Control, and Hill Start Assist as standard. The GC trim comes equipped with dual front airbags and rear parking sensors to aid in tight urban maneuvering. The chassis is built on the BMA architecture, which emphasizes structural rigidity for improved crash protection, providing a secure foundation for both city commuting and highway travel.

The bottom line

For the GCC buyer who wants a 2027 SUV that feels like a premium smartphone on wheels, this Cityray GC offers the best tech-to-price ratio in the current market. It is a smart, stylish opportunity for anyone looking to bypass the used market and step directly into a brand-new, high-specification vehicle.
