Summary

This 2024 MG 5 LUX represents a standout opportunity in the GCC used market, offering range-topping luxury with remarkably low mileage for its age. While most commuters in the region cover over 20,000 km annually, this 26,000 km example has been lightly used, preserving its interior and mechanical longevity. The vibrant Red exterior is a bold choice that holds its appeal in a market of whites and silvers, while the LUX trim provides features usually reserved for cars twice its price. It leads its segment in pure equipment value, providing a high-tech daily drive that is exceptionally easy on the wallet at the pump. For a GCC buyer, the standard 360-degree camera and efficient cabin cooling make it a pragmatic and comfortable choice for urban navigating.

This Car vs Other 2024 MG 5s

With only 26,000 km on the odometer, this MG 5 sits well below the average mileage expected for a 2024 model in the GCC, where 25,000 km per year is common. This low usage translates to significantly less wear on the CVT transmission and suspension components. Being the LUX trim, it carries a higher resale floor than the base STD or mid-range COM variants, making it a more secure investment.

LUX vs Lower Trims

The LUX trim is a significant upgrade over the COM variant, most notably adding a 360-degree surround-view camera and LED headlights for superior night visibility on unlit highway stretches. Inside, the LUX replaces the smaller screen with a high-definition 10.1-inch display and adds an electric sunroof and leather upholstery. It also doubles the safety count with a full suite of six airbags, compared to just two in the lower trims.

MG 5 vs Segment Rivals

The MG 5 is physically larger than competitors like the Toyota Yaris and Kia Pegas, offering a superior 512-litre boot that easily handles airport runs or family grocery trips. While rivals prioritize minimalist interiors, the MG 5 LUX leads with high-end tech, featuring a larger touchscreen and surround-view cameras that are often unavailable or expensive options on its Japanese counterparts.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel economy is a major strength, averaging 5.5 L/100km on combined GCC cycles, which is ideal for cross-emirate commuting. Service intervals are every 10,000 km or 6 months across the extensive MG authorized network in the UAE and Saudi Arabia, with predictable and transparent maintenance costs. The MG 5 has shown strong value retention in the local market, typically holding 75-80% of its value over the first three years.

Performance & Capability

The 1.5-litre engine produces 114 hp, delivering a smooth and linear power flow through the CVT that is perfectly suited for steady-state highway cruising at 120 km/h. Its front-wheel-drive layout provides stable handling during occasional rain-slicked conditions or sandy urban roads. With a top speed of 180 km/h and a compact turning circle, it balances long-distance capability with high agility in tight city parking.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is designed for the GCC climate, featuring a powerful air conditioning system with rear vents and an electric sunroof to brighten the interior. The LUX trim features a 6-way electric driver’s seat and high-quality leather upholstery that stays durable under the intense local sun. Tech integration is seamless, with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto standard on the 10.1-inch central hub.

Safety

Safety is a priority in the LUX trim, which includes six airbags and a robust electronic stability program. Essential GCC driving aids like blind-spot monitoring and a 360-degree camera help manage fast-moving highway traffic and tight parking. It also features a tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS), which is vital for maintaining safety during high-temperature summer drives.

The bottom line

This is the ideal choice for a tech-savvy professional or a small family looking for a nearly-new, high-spec sedan that avoids the steep depreciation of European brands while out-featuring its Japanese rivals.
