Summary

This 2025 MG RX5 Standard is a standout choice in the compact SUV segment, offering a nearly-new ownership experience with just 12,000 km. As a one-year-old vehicle, it has already cleared its initial depreciation hurdle while remaining well within its manufacturer warranty period. The White exterior is widely regarded as the most practical and high-demand resale color in the GCC, effectively reflecting heat and maintaining value. In a market where fuel efficiency and modern tech are priorities, this model balances a turbocharged powertrain with one of the largest screens in its class. It represents an ideal entry point for small families or professionals seeking a reliable, high-spec commuter that is suited to both city traffic and regional highway travel.

This Car vs Other 2025 MG RX5s

With only 12,000 km on the odometer, this vehicle sits significantly below the typical GCC annual average of 20,000–25,000 km. This low usage means the mechanical components and interior surfaces show minimal wear compared to higher-mileage 2025 models currently on the market. Choosing a White exterior is a strategic move for the region, as it is the fastest-selling color in the UAE and Saudi Arabia due to its superior heat management and ease of maintenance.

STANDARD vs Lower Trims

The Standard trim serves as the gateway to the RX5 lineup but remarkably includes the same 171 hp turbocharged engine and 7-speed dual-clutch transmission found in the higher Comfort and Luxury variants. While higher trims add features like a panoramic sunroof and 360-degree cameras, the Standard trim retains the essential 14.1-inch portrait touchscreen and LED headlamps. This provides the core aesthetic and performance of the RX5 without the added complexity or cost of top-tier electronics.

MG RX5 vs Segment Rivals

The MG RX5 leads competitors like the Haval H6 and Changan CS75 Plus by offering a more aggressive, spindle-style geometric grille and a larger vertical infotainment display that mimics high-end luxury EVs. Its 55-litre fuel tank is well-sized for long-distance desert highway drives between Emirates, providing a competitive range. While rivals often lean into softer styling, the RX5’s sharp lines and LED light bar give it a more modern road presence in GCC traffic.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption averages around 6.8 L/100km, though this may reach 9.0 L/100km in heavy Dubai or Riyadh stop-start traffic. Service intervals are typically every 10,000 km or 6 months across the extensive MG authorized network in the GCC, which has grown significantly to ensure parts availability. While European crossovers may depreciate faster, the RX5 typically retains 50-60% of its value at the 3-year mark, supported by MG's strong 6-year/200,000 km regional warranty.

Performance & Capability

The 1.5-litre turbocharged engine delivers a punchy 169 hp and 275 Nm of torque, enabling a 0–100 km/h sprint in 9.4 seconds—plenty of power for confident highway overtaking. The 7-speed wet dual-clutch transmission is specifically tuned to handle the high-torque demands of regional driving while maintaining smoothness. With front-wheel drive and a comfortable suspension setup, it excels as an urban workhorse that can easily manage weekend trips to the coast or countryside.

Comfort & Cabin

Inside, the 5-seat layout is dominated by the 14.1-inch high-definition portrait screen, which includes standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration. The air conditioning system is engineered for the 45°C+ summer heat, featuring dedicated rear cooling vents to keep all passengers comfortable during long afternoon drives. Standard soft-touch materials on the dashboard and a quiet cabin environment ensure a refined experience that punches above its price point.

Safety

Standard safety features include Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Traction Control, and a Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) which is vital for maintaining safety on hot GCC tarmac. The vehicle is equipped with front airbags and rear parking sensors to assist in tight city parking. The build quality utilizes high-strength steel in key areas, providing a solid safety foundation for family occupants during highway travel.

The bottom line

For the buyer seeking a 1-year-old SUV with low mileage and a high-tech cabin, this GCC-spec MG RX5 is a smart, budget-conscious alternative to brand-new models. Its white-on-black configuration and balance of warranty and modern features make it a secure investment for the regional market.
