Summary

This 2026 Changan CS55 Plus is a standout in the compact SUV segment, offering a white exterior that is highly favored for heat reflection and resale value in the GCC. As a current model year vehicle, it provides a fresh entry into Changan's fourth-generation lineup, which has quickly gained a reputation for combining European-inspired design with robust reliability. The STD trim balances essential tech with the efficiency of the Blue Whale 1.5T engine, making it a pragmatic choice for urban professionals. Ownership is supported by an increasingly dense regional service network, ensuring peace of mind across the UAE and beyond.

This Car vs Other 2026 CS55 Pluses

As a 2026 model, this vehicle is at the absolute start of its lifecycle, offering the freshest mechanical condition available in the used market. In the GCC, where highway-heavy driving often leads to high annual mileage, choosing a zero-mileage current year model provides a significant buffer for future resale. The white exterior is a strategic advantage for local buyers, as it is the most sought-after color for maintaining a cooler cabin during the intense summer months.

STD vs Lower Trims

The STD trim serves as the essential entry point into the CS55 Plus range, focusing on Changan's core mechanical strengths. It retains the high-output Blue Whale turbocharged engine found in higher trims, ensuring you don't compromise on the 300 Nm of torque required for confident highway merging. While it skips some of the automated driver aids found in the Luxe trim, it still provides the digital cockpit and premium cabin materials that have allowed this model to disrupt the segment.

CS55 Plus vs Segment Rivals

When compared to rivals like the MG HS or the Geely Coolray, the CS55 Plus stands out with a 1.5-liter engine that punches well above its weight with 178 horsepower. It offers a more modern interior aesthetic than the Toyota Corolla Cross, featuring a digital-forward dashboard that resonates with tech-conscious GCC buyers. The Blue Whale powertrain is specifically tuned to maintain efficiency even in the high-ambient temperatures and stop-start traffic common in regional hubs like Dubai and Riyadh.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel efficiency is a major draw, with a combined rating of 5.9 L/100km (NEDC) making it one of the most economical petrol SUVs in its class. Changan has established an extensive authorized service network across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait, with recommended service intervals of 10,000 km or 6 months. While Chinese brands historically faced steeper depreciation, the fourth-generation CS55 Plus is showing improved value retention at the 3-year mark due to its growing reputation for durability.

Performance & Capability

The 1.5-liter Blue Whale engine delivers a robust 300 Nm of torque, providing effortless acceleration that is particularly useful for the fast-moving multi-lane highways of the UAE. Paired with a 7-speed wet dual-clutch transmission, the power delivery is smooth and responsive, reaching a top speed of 190 km/h where conditions permit. While primarily a front-wheel-drive city crossover, its 171 mm ground clearance allows it to handle gravel paths and uneven urban roads with ease.

Comfort & Cabin

The five-seat cabin is designed for GCC family logistics, offering a competitive 475 liters of boot space that expands to over 1,400 liters with the seats folded. Changan's air conditioning systems are engineered for the region's 45°C+ summers, featuring dedicated rear vents to ensure all passengers remain comfortable. The interior is characterized by soft-touch materials and an ergonomic layout that mimics the refinement of much more expensive executive SUVs.

Safety

Safety is managed by a comprehensive suite of passive and active systems, including front and side airbags and a high-strength steel cage construction. Standard equipment includes Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Traction Control (TCS), and Hill Start Assist, which provide essential stability on the sandy or dusty surfaces often encountered in the GCC. Tire Pressure Monitoring (TPMS) comes standard, a critical feature for highway safety in the extreme heat of the Middle East.

The bottom line

Ideal for a tech-savvy buyer who wants a brand-new 2026 SUV experience with local service support without paying the premium of established Japanese brands.
