The Deepal G318 is a mid-size SUV introduced by Changan Automobile's premium NEV brand, Deepal, in early 2024. Designed for both urban and off-road environments, the G318 combines rugged aesthetics with advanced hybrid technology.

Performance and Powertrain

The G318 utilizes a range-extended electric vehicle (EREV) system. It features a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine producing 148 horsepower, functioning solely as a generator to charge the battery, without directly powering the wheels. The vehicle offers two configurations:

• Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD): Equipped with a single rear electric motor delivering 248 horsepower.

• All-Wheel Drive (AWD): Includes dual electric motors (front and rear) with a combined output of 424 horsepower.

Battery options include 18.4 kWh and 35.1 kWh packs, providing pure electric ranges between 100 km and 190 km, depending on the configuration. The combined driving range extends up to 1,000 km, thanks to the efficient range extender system.

Design and Features

The G318's exterior showcases a boxy, robust design with full LED lighting in a distinctive "C" shape, a roof-mounted luggage rack with additional lighting, and prominent wheel arches housing off-road tires. The rear features a tailgate-mounted spare wheel and minimalist taillights.

Inside, the SUV offers a spacious cabin with 31 storage compartments. The rear cargo area ranges from 818 liters to 1,747 liters with the rear seats folded. Notably, the front seats can recline to form a flat sleeping area, enhancing comfort during extended trips.

Market Availability

Initially launched in China, the Deepal G318 is priced starting at approximately $24,300 USD. While currently available in the Chinese market, there is interest in introducing the G318 to international markets, including Australia, where it could compete with models like the Toyota Prado and Ford Everest.
