Introduction

The Fiat Bravo, introduced in 1995, was a compact three-door hatchback designed as the sportier sibling to the Fiat Brava. It targeted younger drivers seeking stylish looks and dynamic handling while retaining practicality. With its sleek proportions and wide engine lineup, the Bravo won the European Car of the Year award in 1996. Production ran until 2001, with a second generation reintroduced in 2007 to continue Fiat’s presence in the compact car market.

Exterior

The Bravo featured a rounded and aerodynamic three-door design, setting it apart from the more practical five-door Brava. Its short rear overhang, sloping roofline, and wide stance gave it a sporty appeal. Engine Trims

The Fiat Bravo came with a wide range of petrol and diesel engines. Petrol options included 1.4-, 1.6-, 1.8-, and 2.0-liter engines, with outputs from 80 hp to 154 hp. The high-performance HGT version used a 2.0-liter 20V engine producing up to 154 hp, making it the most powerful in the lineup. Diesel variants included 1.9-liter engines, both naturally aspirated and turbocharged. Transmission options were mostly five-speed manuals, with automatics available on select trims.

Maintenance

The Bravo was generally affordable to maintain, thanks to accessible mechanics and widely available parts across Europe. Regular checks of the timing belt and suspension were important to avoid common issues. Diesel models required careful upkeep of fuel injection systems, while petrol models were simpler to maintain. Rust and electrical faults were typical concerns, but overall, the Bravo provided reasonable running costs for its class.

Competitors

The Fiat Bravo competed with the Volkswagen Golf, Ford Escort, and Renault Megane. The Golf was known for its premium build quality, the Escort emphasized reliability, and the Megane brought French styling and comfort. Fiat distinguished the Bravo with sporty Italian design, a wide engine range, and affordability, making it an appealing option for young buyers.
