Summary

This 2003 Hummer H2 is a remarkable example of an American automotive icon, offering unparalleled road presence and genuine off-road capability. With 137,000 km on the clock, it has been driven significantly less than the average for a 23-year-old vehicle in the GCC, where long-distance travel is standard. Its timeless Black exterior remains the most sought-after resale color in the UAE market, ensuring strong future value retention. For those seeking the ultimate combination of heavy-duty utility and early-2000s luxury, this H2 stands out as a durable alternative to modern crossovers. Owning a Hummer in the GCC provides access to a specialized enthusiast network and widespread availability of shared GM powertrain components for straightforward maintenance.

This Car vs Other 2003 H2s

At 137,000 km, this H2 has averaged roughly 6,000 km per year, which is exceptionally low for a region where 20,000 km annually is the norm. This lower-than-average usage means significantly less wear on the heavy-duty transmission and 4WD system compared to high-mileage examples. The Black finish is a significant advantage in the local used market, as it is one of the top-performing colors for resale in the UAE.

STANDARD vs Lower Trims

The Standard trim on the 2003 H2 serves as a robust foundation, featuring many items that would be premium options on other SUVs. It includes a 9-speaker Bose audio system and dual-zone climate control as standard. While the Adventure or Luxury packages added air suspension and specific aesthetics, the Standard trim's coil-spring rear suspension is often preferred by long-term GCC owners for its simpler maintenance and superior reliability in high-heat desert conditions.

H2 vs Segment Rivals

The H2 competes with heavyweights like the Toyota Land Cruiser and Cadillac Escalade, leading the group in pure off-road geometry with a massive 246 mm ground clearance. Its 121-litre fuel tank offers greater range for long desert expeditions compared to many contemporary full-size SUVs. Unlike road-biased rivals, the H2 features a dedicated low-range transfer case and underbody shielding designed for professional-grade terrain tackling.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption typically averages around 22L/100km, reflecting its heavy-duty nature in GCC city traffic and highway cruising. Maintenance is simplified as the 6.0L V8 and drivetrain share many components with the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra, ensuring parts are affordable and widely available at independent garages across the UAE and Saudi Arabia. These vehicles have reached a floor in their depreciation cycle and are increasingly viewed as collectible assets in the Gulf market.

Performance & Capability

The 6.0L V8 produces 325 hp and 494 Nm of torque, providing the low-end grunt necessary for soft sand driving and effortless highway overtaking. Its AWD system, paired with a heavy-duty automatic transmission, allows for a 3,000 kg towing capacity, making it ideal for hauling boats or trailers between emirates. With a 40-degree approach angle, it can clear obstacles that would stop most modern luxury SUVs.

Comfort & Cabin

This H2 features a 7-seat configuration, providing ample room for family trips or group desert outings. The cabin is equipped with high-output air conditioning designed for the American market, which performs admirably in the extreme GCC summer heat. Standard amenities include a premium Bose sound system and deep-tinted glass to help keep the interior cool during long daytime drives.

Safety

The 2003 H2 is built with a heavy-duty truck-based frame providing substantial passive protection. Standard safety features include dual front airbags, 4-wheel anti-lock brakes (ABS), and a specialized traction control system designed to manage wheel slip in both high-speed highway scenarios and loose gravel or sand.

The bottom line

This low-mileage H2 is a rare opportunity for a GCC collector or enthusiast to own a well-preserved piece of off-road history in the market's favorite color.
