Summary

This 2012 Hyundai Centennial GLS offers a rare opportunity to own a full-size V8 luxury flagship with a mileage profile that aligns perfectly with GCC highway expectations for a 14-year-old vehicle. While its rivals from Germany often command high maintenance premiums, the Centennial provides a similar executive experience with the reliability and parts availability typical of the Hyundai network. The white exterior is the most sought-after choice for resale in the UAE and Saudi markets, effectively reflecting the intense summer heat. As a GLS trim, it balances high-end comfort with mechanical simplicity, making it a sustainable long-term choice for regional commuters. This car stands out for delivering 366 horsepower and a massive cabin at a price point that undercuts even mid-range modern compacts.

This Car vs Other 2012 Centennials

With 190,000 km on the odometer, this vehicle sits exactly at the expected average for a 14-year-old executive sedan in the GCC, where 15,000 to 20,000 km per year is the standard for highway commuting between emirates. The white paint is a significant advantage for local buyers, offering the highest thermal efficiency and the strongest resale demand in the secondary market. Mechanically, these V8 units are known for their durability, often reaching well beyond 300,000 km when maintained within the local service network.

GLS vs Lower Trims

The GLS trim represents the standard luxury entry for the Centennial flagship, providing essential executive features that GCC buyers prioritize, such as dual-zone climate control and premium leather upholstery. Unlike base models in other markets, the GCC GLS includes parking sensors and xenon headlights as standard to assist with local driving conditions. It offers a more focused driving experience compared to the VIP-spec trims, avoiding the complexity of aging air suspension systems while retaining the powerful 4.6L V8 powertrain.

Centennial vs Segment Rivals

The Centennial was designed to challenge the Lexus LS and Mercedes-Benz S-Class, leading the segment in pure value-for-money without sacrificing significant cabin volume. It features a generous 77-litre fuel tank, which is highly beneficial for long-distance desert highway drives between Dubai and Riyadh. While rivals may offer more brand cachet, the Centennial provides a quieter cabin and a softer ride quality that specifically caters to the smooth, high-speed roads found across the UAE.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for the 4.6L V8 typically averages around 10.7L/100km on the highway, making it a competent long-distance cruiser. As a GCC-spec vehicle, it benefits from a wide authorized service network including Juma Al Majid in the UAE and Wallan in Saudi Arabia, ensuring parts are affordable and readily available. The depreciation curve for the Centennial has largely flattened at this age, meaning it retains its value better than European luxury cars of the same era, which often face steeper maintenance-related value drops.

Performance & Capability

The 4.6-litre V8 produces a robust 366 hp and 440 Nm of torque, enabling a 0–100 km/h sprint in just 6.4 seconds, which is impressive for a sedan of this size. This power ensures effortless overtaking on fast-moving multi-lane highways like E11. The rear-wheel-drive platform and 6-speed automatic transmission are tuned for refinement, providing a smooth power delivery that remains composed even in extreme summer temperatures.

Comfort & Cabin

Inside, the four-seat configuration provides significant legroom and shoulder room for all occupants, making it ideal for executive transport. The cabin is insulated with acoustic glass to block out wind noise and the harsh GCC sun, while the high-output air conditioning system is specifically engineered to handle 45°C+ temperatures. Standard luxury touches include memory seats and a premium audio system, ensuring comfort during long commutes between cities.

Safety

Safety is managed by a comprehensive suite of active and passive systems, including multiple airbags and stability control to handle sudden changes in road surface. The inclusion of front and rear parking sensors and a rear-view camera is particularly helpful for navigating tight urban parking in major GCC cities. Standard traction control and ABS provide essential stability during the rare but heavy regional rainstorms and on sandy road shoulders.

The bottom line

For the executive buyer seeking V8 power and flagship luxury without the high maintenance costs of a European badge, this GCC-spec Centennial is a pragmatic and prestigious choice.
