Summary

This 2012 Toyota FJ Cruiser stands out as a rare find in the GCC market, featuring a 6-speed manual transmission and exceptionally low mileage for its age. The Iceberg White exterior is a highly sought-after color in the region, ensuring better heat reflection and stronger resale value. Unlike many high-mileage examples, this unit has been driven sparingly, making it a prime candidate for enthusiasts seeking a reliable desert-ready platform. Its rugged body-on-frame construction and Toyota's legendary reliability make it a bulletproof choice for both daily commutes and off-road weekends. For a buyer in the UAE or wider Gulf, the combination of a manual gearbox and low kilometers is a unique opportunity to own a discontinued icon in its most engaging form.

This Car vs Other 2012 FJ Cruisers

With only 52,000 km on the odometer, this FJ Cruiser has been driven significantly less than the typical GCC average of 20,000–25,000 km per year. While most 2012 models in the region have exceeded the 200,000 km mark, this vehicle offers a mechanically fresh experience. The white exterior further enhances its appeal, as it is the most popular resale color in the local market due to its ability to stay cool in the summer heat.

BASE vs Lower Trims

The Base trim for this year provides the essential hardware that FJ enthusiasts prioritize, including the high-mounted air intake and heavy-duty skid plates. In the GCC, the manual transmission variant is particularly prized as it features a full-time 4WD system with a Torsen limited-slip center differential, a mechanical upgrade over the part-time system found in standard automatic trims. This spec includes the water-resistant fabric upholstery and rubber flooring, designed for easy cleaning after desert trips.

FJ Cruiser vs Segment Rivals

Compared to the Jeep Wrangler and Nissan Xterra, the FJ Cruiser offers superior long-term reliability and a more robust authorized service network across all seven Emirates and neighboring GCC countries. Its 72-liter fuel tank provides a generous range for long-distance highway drives between cities like Dubai and Muscat. While rivals may offer more doors, the FJ's unique suicide-door configuration and shorter wheelbase provide a distinct advantage in tight off-road maneuvers.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for the 4.0L V6 manual typically ranges between 12.0 and 14.5 L/100km depending on how much time is spent in GCC city traffic versus open highway cruising. Maintenance is straightforward with 10,000 km service intervals, and parts are readily available at any Toyota center across the region. The FJ Cruiser is famous for its exceptional value retention, often depreciating at just 8-10% annually, which is significantly better than European SUV competitors.

Performance & Capability

The 270 hp V6 engine paired with a 6-speed manual transmission delivers a raw, engaging driving experience that modern SUVs lack. With a verified 245 mm of ground clearance and a 700 mm wading depth, it is factory-equipped to handle flash floods or deep sand dunes. The manual spec's full-time all-wheel-drive system ensures constant traction, making it a formidable tool for weekend overland adventures across the Liwa or Fossil Rock.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is purpose-built for the GCC climate, featuring a powerful air conditioning system that remains effective even when ambient temperatures exceed 45°C. The water-resistant seats are a practical touch for regional owners who frequent the beach or desert. Despite its rugged exterior, the interior provides a stable and quiet ride on the highway, with enough cargo space to support a full weekend of camping gear.

Safety

This model comes standard with Toyota's Star Safety System, which includes Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Traction Control (TRAC), and ABS with Electronic Brake-force Distribution. It is equipped with six airbags, including side-curtain airbags that are particularly important for rollover protection during off-road excursions. The tire pressure monitoring system is a vital tool for GCC drivers who frequently deflate their tires for sand driving.

The bottom line

This is a rare opportunity for a collector or off-road enthusiast to secure a low-mileage, manual FJ Cruiser that has spent more time in a garage than in the dunes. It represents the perfect balance of mechanical simplicity and iconic styling in the most desirable GCC specification.
