Summary

This 2012 Toyota Hiace GL represents a high-utility investment for business or specialized transport in the UAE. As a GCC-spec model, it features the reinforced cooling systems essential for maintaining cabin temperatures during peak summer heat. The GL trim distinguishes itself from base commercial variants with improved interior materials and better passenger comfort. With its manual transmission and robust 2.7L petrol engine, this van offers the mechanical simplicity that leads to minimal downtime for operators. For any buyer in the region, the Hiace’s reputation for bulletproof reliability and ease of parts procurement remains its most compelling ownership advantage.

This Car vs Other 2012 Toyota Hiaces

With 256,000 km, this Hiace sits at a typical mileage for a decade-old commercial workhorse in the GCC, where annual averages often reach 25,000 km. The white exterior is the most practical choice for the region, reflecting solar heat more effectively than darker tones while maintaining the highest possible resale demand. Its GCC-specific configuration ensures the air conditioning and cooling systems are built to handle desert ambient temperatures without strain.

GL vs Lower Trims

The GL trim upgrades the basic Hiace experience by adding features usually absent from the entry-level DX workhorse. This includes a more refined fabric interior rather than basic vinyl, front power windows, and central locking for better driver convenience. Externally, the GL typically features chrome accents and body-colored elements that provide a more professional appearance for business use or guest transport.

Hiace vs Segment Rivals

The Hiace consistently leads rivals like the Nissan Urvan and Hyundai H1 in terms of residual value and ease of maintenance across the Middle East. While competitors may offer softer rides, the Toyota's leaf-spring rear suspension is engineered specifically for heavy payloads and long-term durability on varied GCC road surfaces. Its 2.7L engine is widely regarded as one of the most reliable powertrains in the segment, supported by the largest parts network in the region.

Running Costs & Resale

Fuel consumption for the 2.7L petrol manual averages approximately 12.2 L/100km, which is efficient for a high-volume utility vehicle in stop-start city traffic. Maintenance costs are among the lowest in the market due to the widespread availability of authorized Toyota service centers in every major GCC city. Historically, the Hiace retains up to 10% more value than its European competitors over a three-year cycle, making it a safe financial asset for fleet owners.

Performance & Capability

The 149 hp 2.7L engine is optimized for torque and durability rather than outright speed, providing steady power for highway cruising between emirates. The 5-speed manual transmission gives the driver full control over gear selection, which is particularly useful when navigating inclines or heavily loaded city routes. With a turning circle of approximately 5.5 meters, it remains remarkably maneuverable in narrow commercial districts and tight loading bays.

Comfort & Cabin

This 5-seater configuration balances passenger transport with significant rear cargo capacity, making it ideal for mixed-use logistics. The GL trim features upgraded seat cushioning that provides better support for long-distance highway drives compared to the base trim. The high-output air conditioning system is a hallmark of the GCC-spec Hiace, designed to cool the entire cabin quickly even when parked in direct sunlight.

Safety

Standard safety features for the 2012 GL trim include Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and dual front SRS airbags for the driver and passenger. The vehicle is built on a high-rigidity frame designed to withstand commercial stress while providing a stable platform in crosswinds. For added security, the GCC specification includes an engine immobilizer and reinforced door beams as standard.

The bottom line

This Hiace GL is the ideal choice for a UAE business owner seeking a durable, low-maintenance workhorse that will hold its value better than any other van in its class.
