Summary

This 13-year-old Lexus GX460 Platinum is a rare find in the silver exterior, a color that consistently commands high demand and strong resale value across the GCC. While the 220,000 km mileage reflects typical regional highway use for a vehicle of this age, this model is legendary for a powertrain that often reaches twice this distance with routine maintenance. As a Platinum trim, it bridges the gap between rugged off-road capability and executive comfort, offering features that were years ahead of its time. For the buyer who needs a bulletproof family hauler that can transition from city commutes to desert weekends without hesitation, this GCC-spec GX remains a benchmark in its segment. It offers a unique combination of mechanical simplicity and Lexus refinement that newer turbocharged rivals struggle to match.

This Car vs Other 2013 Lexus GX460s

With 220,000 km over 13 years, this GX460 has averaged roughly 17,000 km annually, which is notably below the GCC average of 20,000–25,000 km for large SUVs. The silver exterior is one of the top three resale colors in the UAE and Saudi markets, providing a distinct advantage when it comes time to trade in. Compared to higher-mileage examples, this vehicle retains the mechanical tightness expected of a well-maintained Lexus V8.

PLATINUM vs Lower Trims

The Platinum trim elevates the GX460 significantly over the Base and Premium versions, most notably with the addition of the 17-speaker Mark Levinson Surround Sound system. It also features semi-aniline leather upholstery, a cooled center console box for the GCC summer, and the Adaptive Variable Suspension (AVS) system with electronically modulated dampers. These upgrades specifically target the long-distance comfort and luxury required for cross-emirate travel.

GX460 vs Segment Rivals

The GX460 stands apart from rivals like the BMW X5 and Audi Q7 by utilizing a robust body-on-frame construction shared with the Land Cruiser Prado, offering superior durability on unpaved surfaces. Its naturally aspirated 4.6L V8 provides linear power delivery that is often more reliable in extreme heat than the turbocharged engines found in European competitors. Furthermore, its 87-liter fuel tank ensures a substantial cruising range for long desert highway stretches.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for the 4.6L V8 typically averages 14–17 L/100km in mixed GCC driving, reflecting its heavy-duty nature. Lexus benefits from one of the most extensive authorized service networks in the region, with parts widely available from Al-Futtaim in the UAE to Abdul Latif Jameel in Saudi Arabia. Historically, the GX460 has one of the lowest depreciation rates in the SUV segment, typically losing only 8–10% of its value annually.

Performance & Capability

The 300 hp V8 engine delivers a smooth, effortless climb to highway speeds, paired with a full-time 4WD system and a Torsen limited-slip center differential. With a ground clearance of approximately 205 mm and a 2,948 kg towing capacity, it is perfectly suited for hauling jet skis to the coast or exploring wadis. The Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System (KDSS) automatically adjusts the stabilizer bars, providing flat cornering on-road and maximum wheel travel off-road.

Comfort & Cabin

The seven-seat cabin is designed for the GCC climate, featuring powerful tri-zone climate control and ventilated front seats that provide immediate relief from the heat. The second row slides and reclines to balance legroom, while the third row folds flat at the touch of a button to reveal a generous cargo area. Acoustic glass and extensive sound dampening ensure the interior remains a quiet sanctuary, even at high highway speeds.

Safety

Standard safety for the Platinum trim includes 10 airbags, providing comprehensive protection for all three rows. Active safety is supported by Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Traction Control (TRAC), and a high-resolution rear-view camera with parking sensors to manage the vehicle's footprint. The body-on-frame design offers a secondary layer of passive safety, providing a sturdy cell for occupants during long-distance travel.

The bottom line

For the seasoned GCC buyer, this GX460 Platinum represents the sweet spot of legendary reliability and high-tier luxury, making it an ideal choice for a family looking for a dependable long-term workhorse.
