Lexus RX350 PLATINUM

Highlights

• 296 hp from a 3.5-litre V6 engine
• Ventilated front seats standard
• All Wheel Drive with selectable drive modes

Summary

This 9-year-old Lexus RX350 represents a balanced acquisition in the GCC market, featuring a mileage of 93,000 km that sits well below the regional average for a car of this age. Finished in Grey, a neutral and resilient choice for local resale, this Platinum trim offers the full suite of Lexus luxury that rivals struggle to match in terms of long-term reliability. The naturally aspirated V6 provides the linear power delivery preferred for steady highway cruising between the Emirates, avoiding the complexity of newer turbocharged units. For a buyer seeking the gold standard in premium crossover durability, this AWD example is mechanically primed for the high-temperature demands of the Gulf climate.

This Car vs Other 2017 RX350s

With just 93,000 km on the odometer, this vehicle has averaged roughly 10,000 km per year, which is significantly lower than the typical GCC annual usage of 20,000–25,000 km. The Grey exterior is a highly practical choice for the region, showing less dust than darker shades and maintaining a strong profile for future resale. Finding an RX350 from this generation with such controlled mileage is an advantage for buyers prioritizing mechanical longevity.

PLATINUM vs Lower Trims

The Platinum trim elevates the RX350 experience by adding essential GCC comforts like ventilated front seats and a power-operated liftgate, features often absent on base American-spec models. You also benefit from upgraded leather upholstery and an enhanced infotainment display that offers a more modern cabin feel. This trim level also standardizes the Lexus Safety System+, providing a comprehensive suite of driver aids that were optional on lower variants.

RX350 vs Segment Rivals

When compared to the BMW X5 or Mercedes-Benz GLE from the same era, the Lexus RX350 leads on projected long-term maintenance costs and ease of service across the GCC. Its naturally aspirated 3.5L V6 engine is widely regarded for its heat tolerance compared to European turbocharged rivals. While others may focus on aggressive handling, the RX350 dominates in cabin quietness and ride suppleness on long desert highways.

Running Costs & Resale

Lexus maintains one of the strongest value retention rates in the UAE and wider GCC, typically depreciating at a slower rate of 8–10% annually compared to 12–18% for European luxury crossovers. Fuel consumption is efficient for a large V6, averaging approximately 10.2 L/100km on combined cycles, though stop-start city traffic in places like Riyadh or Dubai will see slightly higher figures. Authorized service centers are exceptionally well-distributed across the UAE and Saudi Arabia, ensuring parts are always readily available.

Performance & Capability

The 296 hp V6 engine provides smooth, confident acceleration, allowing the RX350 to reach 100 km/h in approximately 7.7 seconds. The All Wheel Drive system ensures stability during sudden rain showers or when traversing gravel paths during weekend escapes. While not a desert off-roader, its 200 mm ground clearance is ample for handling high speed bumps and uneven suburban terrain comfortably.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is specifically designed to isolate passengers from external heat and road noise, featuring a dual-zone climate control system known for its rapid cooling capacity. Ventilated seats are a critical inclusion for the local summer, preventing discomfort during afternoon drives. The five-seat layout provides generous legroom for all passengers, making it a favorite for small families who value a premium, hushed environment.

Safety

Safety is managed by the Lexus Safety System+, which includes Pre-Collision Warning, Lane Departure Alert, and Adaptive Cruise Control, the latter of which is invaluable for long-distance highway travel. The vehicle is equipped with 10 airbags as standard and features Blind Spot Monitoring to help navigate fast-moving multi-lane traffic. The robust structural integrity of this generation earned top marks in global safety testing, providing peace of mind for family use.

The bottom line

For the executive or family buyer who values peace of mind over performance gimmicks, this low-mileage Platinum trim is the smartest way to own a premium SUV in the GCC market.
