Summary

This 13-year-old Toyota Hiace GL represents the definitive utility choice for GCC business and transport logistics. Despite the mileage, the 2.7L petrol engine is a legendary workhorse in the region, known for its ability to handle extreme summer heat and high-utilization cycles. The white exterior is the most practical choice for the local market, ensuring lower cabin heat soak and the highest possible resale demand. As a GL trim, it offers better cabin materials and comfort features than the base models, making it a more pleasant environment for drivers and passengers alike. For anyone needing reliable multi-passenger transport with proven mechanical longevity, this is the most secure investment in its segment.

This Car vs Other 2013 Hiaces

With 293,000 km over 13 years, this Hiace has averaged approximately 22,500 km per year, which is perfectly aligned with typical commercial usage in the GCC. While higher than a private sedan, this mileage is considered standard for a regional workhorse that spends its life on the open highways. The white paint is a strategic advantage, as it is the most sought-after color for commercial resale in the UAE and Saudi markets.

GL vs Lower Trims

The GL trim upgrades the ownership experience with essential comforts often missing in the base DX or Standard versions. It features upgraded fabric upholstery and extra padding for the driver's seat, which is a significant benefit during long cross-country shifts. Additionally, the GL typically includes power windows, central locking, and improved interior trim, making it more suitable for guest or staff transport than a pure cargo van.

Hiace vs Segment Rivals

The Hiace leads the Nissan Urvan and Hyundai H1 primarily through its unmatched reliability and parts availability across all seven GCC nations. Its 2.7L naturally aspirated engine is specifically tuned for the region's low-sulfur fuel and high ambient temperatures. While rivals may offer more modern cabin tech, the Toyota’s body-on-frame durability ensures it remains on the road long after competitors have been retired.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for the 2.7L manual averages around 12.3L/100km, which is competitive for a vehicle of this size in stop-start urban traffic. Service intervals are recommended every 10,000 km, and with one of the most extensive authorized service networks in the world, maintenance is straightforward from Dubai to Muscat. The Hiace maintains one of the lowest depreciation rates in the UAE, often retaining its value better than any other commercial van at this age.

Performance & Capability

The 149 hp petrol engine is paired with a 5-speed manual transmission, offering the driver total control over gear selection, which is vital when carrying a full load of 9+ passengers. It features a robust 1,400 kg braked towing capacity and a 70-liter fuel tank that provides sufficient range for inter-city travel between Emirates. The rear-wheel-drive setup is engineered for durability under load, providing stable handling even on unpaved access roads.

Comfort & Cabin

Designed for the GCC climate, the Hiace features a powerful air conditioning system with dedicated rear cooling vents to ensure all passengers remain comfortable in 45°C+ heat. The 9+ seating configuration is highly versatile, providing ample legroom for passengers or the ability to fold rear rows for additional cargo space. Cabin insulation is specifically designed to minimize engine heat transfer into the passenger compartment, a critical detail for local summer driving.

Safety

Safety is managed through a suite of standard active and passive systems including ABS with Brake Assist to manage heavy loads during emergency stops. The vehicle is equipped with dual front airbags and features a reinforced crumple zone structure to protect occupants. Its high-visibility seating position and large glass area are particularly helpful for navigating the fast-moving, multi-lane highway traffic common across the GCC.

The bottom line

Perfect for a transport business or a large family, this Hiace GL offers the ultimate blend of Toyota's legendary reliability and the enhanced comfort of the GL trim. It remains the safest financial bet in the used commercial market due to its high resale demand and low maintenance complexity.
