Summary

This 2021 Mercedes-Benz A220 offers a premium entry into the luxury sedan market with a balanced 188 hp turbocharged engine. At five years old with 68,000 km, its mileage sits below the GCC annual average, making it an attractive option for those seeking a modern digital cockpit without the high depreciation of a new vehicle. The black exterior remains the most sought-after resale color in the region, ensuring better value retention when you decide to upgrade. As a Korean spec model, it provides a high-feature interior often including premium tech not always found on base regional units. For the GCC buyer, this represents a sophisticated daily commuter that handles urban traffic and highway speeds with equal refinement.

This Car vs Other 2021 A220s

With 68,000 km on the odometer, this vehicle has been driven approximately 13,600 km per year, which is significantly lower than the typical 20,000–25,000 km annual average seen in the GCC. This lower usage suggests less wear on the mechanical components and interior surfaces compared to many high-mileage highway commuters in the local market. The black finish is a major plus, as it consistently ranks as a top-tier resale color across the UAE and Saudi Arabia.

STANDARD vs Lower Trims

The 2021 A220 'Standard' trim is highly specified, including a 64-color ambient lighting system and Blind Spot Assist as standard—features that were often optional in earlier model years. It features the MBUX infotainment system with dual 7-inch displays, providing a seamless digital experience that rivals much more expensive executive sedans. This trim also includes a panoramic sunroof and power-adjustable front seats with memory settings, elevating the daily driving experience.

A220 vs Segment Rivals

Compared to the Audi A3 and BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe, the A220 leads with its intuitive MBUX voice control system and a more modern interior aesthetic. Its 2.0L turbocharged engine provides a smoother power delivery for long highway stretches between emirates than the smaller displacement engines found in some base-level competitors. The cabin insulation is specifically noted for its ability to filter out road noise, a key advantage during high-speed highway cruising.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption averages around 8.5 L/100km in city traffic and 5.5 L/100km on the highway, making it one of the more efficient luxury sedans for commuting between Dubai and Abu Dhabi. As a Korean spec vehicle, owners should utilize the extensive network of independent German specialists in the UAE for cost-effective maintenance outside of the primary dealership. While European luxury sedans typically depreciate by 12–18% annually in the GCC, the A-Class holds its value well among younger buyers due to its strong brand cachet and tech-forward cabin.

Performance & Capability

The A220 delivers a verified 0–100 km/h time of 7.2 seconds and a top speed of 210 km/h, providing ample power for confident overtaking on the E11 highway. The 7-speed dual-clutch transmission offers lightning-fast shifts, ensuring the 188 hp is always readily available. Its front-wheel-drive architecture is tuned for stability and comfort, providing a composed ride even when encountering the occasional gravel or sand patches on secondary roads.

Comfort & Cabin

The five-seat cabin is anchored by the MBUX digital cockpit, featuring a high-resolution touchscreen and a touchpad controller. For the GCC climate, the dual-zone automatic climate control is robust, quickly cooling the cabin even after being parked in the sun. The panoramic roof adds a sense of spaciousness, while the acoustic glass helps maintain a quiet environment, shielding passengers from the heat and noise of heavy urban traffic.

Safety

Safety is a priority with standard Blind Spot Assist, which is vital for multi-lane highway driving in the region. The vehicle is also equipped with Active Brake Assist, a rearview camera, and a comprehensive suite of eight airbags. Adaptive braking technology with a 'Hold' function makes stop-and-go traffic in major GCC cities significantly less tiring for the driver.

The bottom line

This Korean-spec A220 is the ideal choice for a young professional seeking a low-mileage, tech-heavy Mercedes-Benz that avoids the steep initial depreciation of a new showroom model.
