Summary

This 2014 Toyota Hiace DX is a quintessential GCC workhorse, engineered to thrive in high-temperature environments and demanding duty cycles. While the mileage reflects a productive 12-year life on the region's highways, the body-on-frame durability and the proven 2.7L petrol engine make it a low-risk asset for any fleet. The white exterior is the most sought-after color for resale in the local used market, ensuring strong liquidity when it's time to upgrade. Compared to its rivals, the Hiace offers unmatched parts availability and a service network that spans from the UAE to Saudi Arabia. This is a dependable, manual-transmission solution for those who prioritize mechanical simplicity and long-term uptime.

This Car vs Other 2014 Hiaces

At 348,000 km, this vehicle's mileage is typical for a 12-year-old commercial van in the GCC, where annual averages often reach 30,000 km due to long-distance highway logistics. Its white exterior provides a significant advantage for local resale, as it is the most popular choice for heat reflection and commercial branding. This specific unit's regional specification ensures it was built with a cooling system designed for extreme summer peaks.

DX vs Lower Trims

The DX trim serves as the robust foundation for the Hiace range, offering the essential durability that GCC business owners demand without unnecessary electronics that can fail in the heat. It provides a more versatile interior layout compared to base utility specs, including a 3-seat configuration that maximizes cabin utility for small crews. This trim is favored in the used market for its straightforward maintenance and mechanical resilience.

Hiace vs Segment Rivals

The Hiace leads rivals like the Nissan Urvan and Hyundai H1 primarily through its superior resale value and the sheer density of Toyota's service infrastructure across the GCC. Its 2.7L petrol engine is widely regarded as more durable than competitor powertrains when subjected to constant heavy loads and stop-start city traffic. Furthermore, the Hiace's reputation for reliability makes it the first choice for businesses where downtime is not an option.

Running Costs & Resale

With an average combined fuel consumption of approximately 12.4 L/100km, the Hiace remains competitive for a large-capacity petrol van. Resale value is among the highest in the segment, typically retaining its value significantly better than European alternatives over a 12-year period. Service intervals are recommended every 10,000 km, and with the most extensive authorized network in the region, maintenance is convenient in every major city from Dubai to Riyadh.

Performance & Capability

The 2.7L 2TR-FE engine delivers 149 hp and 241 Nm of torque, providing the necessary low-end pull for a 1,085 kg payload. Its rear-wheel-drive configuration and 5-speed manual transmission offer the driver direct control, which is essential when navigating heavy loads or gravel worksites. The van features a ground clearance of approximately 185 mm, allowing it to clear minor obstacles and unpaved terrain often encountered in developing GCC industrial areas.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is a 3-seat layout designed for utility and ease of cleaning, featuring fabric seating that stays cooler than vinyl in the intense summer sun. The air conditioning system is specifically tuned for GCC conditions, providing rapid cabin cooling even after the vehicle has been parked in direct heat. Large door openings and a flat floor design make it easy for drivers and porters to enter and exit frequently during a busy delivery shift.

Safety

Standard safety features on this trim include a reinforced body structure with side-impact beams designed to protect the cabin during commercial use. The 2014 update introduced a more ergonomic steering wheel design to reduce driver fatigue during long cross-country hauls. It also features a load-sensing proportioning valve (LSPV) which optimizes braking pressure between the front discs and rear drums based on the weight of the cargo being carried.

The bottom line

For a business owner or fleet manager in the GCC, this Hiace is a reliable, high-uptime tool that will continue to hold its value better than almost any other commercial vehicle on the market.
