• Naturally aspirated 5.3-litre V8 engine
• Body-on-frame construction

Summary

This 2015 GMC Sierra 1500 offers a rare combination of the rugged Regular Cab body style and the more powerful 5.3L V8, a setup favored by GCC enthusiasts for its power-to-weight ratio. With 165,000 km over 11 years, the mileage sits exactly at the expected average for a regional workhorse, suggesting consistent maintenance rather than heavy commercial abuse. The Grey exterior is a highly practical choice for the Middle East, effectively masking desert dust and maintaining strong resale appeal. Compared to rival half-ton pickups, the Sierra's Z71 off-road suspension and locking rear differential make it a superior choice for weekend dune drives. For a buyer in the GCC, the most important consideration is the strength of the General Motors service network, which ensures parts are readily available from Kuwait to Oman.

This Car vs Other 2015 Sierras

At 11 years old with 165,000 km, this Sierra has averaged roughly 15,000 km per year, which is significantly lower than the typical 20,000–25,000 km seen on many highway-driven trucks in the UAE and Saudi Arabia. While many Regular Cab models from this year were fitted with the smaller V6 for fleet use, this example carries the 355 hp V8, making it a much more desirable enthusiast find. The Grey finish is a top-tier resale color in the regional market, offering better value retention than less common bright tones.

SLE Z71 vs Lower Trims

The SLE trim is a major step up from the base Sierra, adding the 8-inch IntelliLink infotainment system and a leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio controls. This specific Z71 package further elevates the truck with off-road tuned Rancho shocks, a heavy-duty locking rear differential, and underbody skid plates for desert protection. These hardware upgrades are highly valued in the GCC used market as they transform the truck from a basic hauler into a capable off-road machine.

Sierra vs Segment Rivals

The Sierra is often cross-shipped with the Ford F-150 and RAM 1500, but it stands out with its roll-formed high-strength steel bed, which is more resistant to the heavy impact of loading equipment than rivals' aluminum or traditional steel alternatives. For long GCC highway stretches, the 5.3L EcoTec3 engine features Active Fuel Management, which shuts down cylinders to save fuel during cruising—a distinct advantage over the older engine designs found in some competitors. Its air conditioning system is also widely regarded in the region for its superior ability to handle 45°C+ summer peaks.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for the 5.3L V8 in GCC conditions typically averages around 13.0 L/100km combined, though highway cruising can drop this significantly. Maintenance is straightforward with 10,000 km service intervals, and the truck's mechanical simplicity means it can be serviced at any of the extensive authorized centers across the UAE and wider GCC. The Sierra retains value exceptionally well for a truck, with SLE Z71 trims typically depreciating at 10-12% annually, outperforming many European luxury SUVs.

Performance & Capability

The 355 hp V8 provides a robust 519 Nm of torque, enabling a verified braked towing capacity of 4,309 kg, making it perfect for hauling boats or car trailers across the Emirates. The All-Wheel Drive system, combined with the Z71 off-road suspension, provides 223 mm of ground clearance to navigate gravel tracks and sand dunes with ease. On the highway, the 6-speed automatic transmission is geared for relaxed overtaking, ensuring the truck feels composed even at the 140 km/h speed limits common on Saudi and UAE inter-city roads.

Comfort & Cabin

The Regular Cab interior is designed for a driver and two passengers, featuring a 40/20/40 split-bench seat that provides a spacious feel for a two-door pickup. The dual-zone climate control is specifically tuned for high-ambient temperatures, ensuring the cabin stays cool even during mid-day summer drives. Cabin insulation is a high point for this generation, utilizing triple-sealed doors to keep desert wind noise and heat soak at a minimum during long-distance travel.

Safety

Standard safety features on this SLE trim include StabiliTrak with Trailer Sway Control, which is essential for maintaining composure during sudden lane changes on fast-moving highways. It is equipped with a full suite of airbags, including head-curtain side-impact airbags, and features a rear-vision camera to assist with parking in tight urban spaces. The Z71 package adds Hill Descent Control, providing automated braking assistance when navigating steep sand or rocky terrain.

The bottom line

For the buyer seeking a classic short-wheelbase V8 truck that hasn't been overworked, this GCC-spec SLE Z71 is a standout choice. It combines the most reliable GM powertrain with the off-road hardware needed for a true Middle Eastern lifestyle.
