Summary

This 2016 Maserati Quattroporte SQ4 represents a rare opportunity to own a Ferrari-built V6 engine wrapped in timeless Italian design. As an SQ4, it offers the added security of all-wheel drive, making it far more capable during the rare but heavy GCC rains compared to its rear-wheel-drive counterparts. While the mileage is higher than average, this model year benefits from the 2016 tech updates, including standard Harman Kardon audio and blind-spot monitoring. The Grey exterior is a highly sensible choice for the GCC market, offering a sophisticated look that maintains strong resale demand by hiding desert dust better than darker tones. This is the ideal grand tourer for those who prioritize engine soul and presence over the clinical feel of German rivals.

This Car vs Other 2016 Quattroportes

With 299,000 km, this Quattroporte has seen significantly more use than the typical GCC average of 25,000 km per year, suggesting a life spent largely on open highways between emirates. While the mileage is high, these Ferrari-engineered V6 blocks are known for their durability when maintained on schedule. The Grey exterior is a premier resale choice in the UAE and Saudi markets, providing a neutral yet prestigious look that holds value better than niche colors.

SQ4 vs Lower Trims

The SQ4 trim is a significant step up from the base 'S' model, primarily adding the Q4 intelligent all-wheel-drive system which can shift torque to the front wheels in just 150 milliseconds. For the 2016 model year, the SQ4 also gained a standard heated steering wheel and aluminum steering-column shift paddles, features highly sought after by GCC enthusiasts. It also includes the 900-watt Harman Kardon premium audio system as standard, which was an expensive option on earlier base models.

Quattroporte vs Segment Rivals

The Quattroporte leads rivals like the BMW 7 Series and Mercedes-Benz S-Class in raw emotional appeal, utilizing an engine built alongside Ferrari’s own powerplants. While the German competitors focus on isolated comfort, the Maserati offers a larger 80-litre fuel tank for superior cross-border range and a significantly more communicative steering feel. Its boot space of 530 litres is also highly competitive, easily accommodating golf sets or large luggage for weekend trips to Salalah or Ras Al Khaimah.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for the SQ4 typically averages around 13 L/100km in combined GCC driving, though heavy-footed city driving in Dubai traffic will see this rise. Service intervals are recommended every 20,000 km or 12 months in the GCC, with major belt and spark plug replacements occurring at the 4-year or 80,000 km mark. While Maserati depreciation is steeper than Japanese luxury brands, the SQ4 trim retains a higher percentage of its value due to its all-weather capability and the prestige of its Ferrari-derived powertrain.

Performance & Capability

The 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 delivers a staggering 410 hp and 550 Nm of torque, enabling a 0–100 km/h sprint of just 4.9 seconds. The Q4 all-wheel-drive system provides exceptional stability during high-speed highway cruising and enhances grip on sandy road surfaces often encountered in the region. The ZF 8-speed automatic transmission is tuned for both smooth executive commuting and sharp, aggressive shifts when placed in Sport mode.

Comfort & Cabin

Inside, the Quattroporte offers a spacious five-seat layout lined with premium Italian leather and real wood veneers. The 2016 update includes an 8.4-inch touchscreen and a standard 10-speaker Harman Kardon system that provides crystal-clear audio even at highway speeds. The climate control is robust enough to handle the 45°C+ GCC summers, and the long wheelbase ensures that rear-seat passengers enjoy executive-level legroom during long drives across the Emirates.

Safety

Standard safety features on this SQ4 include blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, both essential for navigating fast-moving multi-lane highways in the UAE and KSA. It is equipped with six airbags, stability control, and high-performance Brembo brakes that provide consistent stopping power in extreme heat. The Q4 all-wheel-drive system further enhances safety by providing superior traction on unpredictable surfaces like rain-slicked tarmac or gravel-strewn desert roads.

The bottom line

For the enthusiast buyer who wants a Ferrari-derived soundtrack and Italian flair at a fraction of the original cost, this highway-proven Quattroporte SQ4 is a characterful alternative to the standard luxury sedan.
