• Strong value retention in the GCC used market

Summary

This 2016 Mitsubishi Lancer EX GLX represents a dependable choice for those seeking a durable commuter with the more desirable 2.0-liter engine. While its mileage reflects regular highway use common in the UAE, the Lancer’s reputation for mechanical longevity makes it a staple on regional roads. Finished in Black, a versatile choice for resale, this GCC-spec sedan offers a straightforward driving experience that prioritizes long-term reliability over complex electronics. It remains a competitive alternative to newer, more expensive compacts by focusing on the fundamentals: a cooling-optimized AC system and a robust powertrain. For a buyer in the Gulf, the peace of mind provided by a massive parts and service network is the primary advantage of this listing.

This Car vs Other 2016 Lancer EXs

At 242,000 km, this vehicle's mileage is slightly above the GCC annual average of 25,000 km but typical for a car used for inter-emirate commuting. In the local market, these high-mileage Lancers are valued for their mechanical simplicity and ease of repair. The Black exterior is a popular choice in the UAE, ensuring it maintains a steady appeal for future resale compared to niche colors.

GLX vs Lower Trims

The GLX trim with the 2.0-liter engine provides a significant power bump over the base 1.6-liter models, offering better highway merging capabilities. It includes essential GCC features such as power windows, keyless entry, and a multi-information display that are sometimes absent or simplified on entry-level fleet specifications. While it remains a functional 'no-frills' trim, it benefits from the same reinforced safety body construction found in the top-tier GT models.

Lancer EX vs Segment Rivals

The Lancer EX is often cross-shopped with the Toyota Corolla and Nissan Sunny, where it leads with a more aggressive, rally-inspired aesthetic and a 59-liter fuel tank that is ideal for long-distance desert drives. Its 2.0-liter engine provides a more relaxed highway cruising experience than the smaller engines found in base-model competitors. Mitsubishi’s cabin cooling efficiency is also widely regarded as one of the best for handling extreme summer temperatures in the region.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for the 2.0L engine typically averages around 8.2 to 8.7 L/100km, performing efficiently on the long, flat highways of the GCC. Service intervals are recommended every 10,000 km, with one of the most extensive authorized service networks spanning the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Oman. The Lancer EX follows a slow depreciation pattern, typically retaining value well due to the high demand for affordable, reliable Japanese sedans in the secondary market.

Performance & Capability

The 150 hp MIVEC engine is paired with a CVT featuring a 6-step sports mode, providing a smooth and predictable power delivery suited for urban traffic. It reaches a top speed of approximately 200 km/h, ensuring it never feels underpowered during fast-moving highway commutes between Abu Dhabi and Dubai. The four-wheel independent suspension, featuring MacPherson struts up front and a multi-link rear, offers a balanced ride that handles both paved roads and gravel surfaces with stability.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is designed for five passengers, featuring durable fabric seating that resists heat better than leather during the peak of the Gulf summer. The air conditioning system is specifically tuned for the region, ensuring rapid cabin cooling even after the car has been parked in direct sunlight. Generous legroom for a compact sedan makes it suitable for small families, while the simple layout ensures that all controls are within easy reach for the driver.

Safety

Standard safety equipment on this GCC-spec GLX includes the Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution (RISE) body design, which effectively disperses energy during a collision. Active safety is supported by an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist, providing reliable stopping power on sandy or wet road surfaces. Dual front airbags and an engine immobilizer are standard, ensuring a base level of protection and security for daily use.

The bottom line

This Lancer EX is an ideal match for a budget-conscious professional or a first-time car buyer in the GCC who needs a mechanical workhorse with a proven track record. It offers a rare combination of 2.0L performance and Mitsubishi's legendary ease of maintenance at a highly accessible entry point.
