Nissan Maxima SL

Highlights

• 300 hp from a 3.5-liter V6
• Dual-panel panoramic moonroof standard
• 11-speaker Bose premium audio system standard

Summary

This 2016 Nissan Maxima SL offers a compelling blend of high-output performance and executive-level comfort, standing out with its '4-Door Sports Car' DNA. For GCC buyers, the SL trim is particularly desirable as it bridges the gap between the standard models and the flagship Platinum, adding essential tech like adaptive cruise control and premium audio. While the grey exterior is a neutral and stable choice for regional resale, the real draw is the 300-horsepower V6 that handles the UAE's high-speed highway commutes with ease. Given the region's typical high annual mileage, this car remains a sturdy choice for cross-emirate travel, backed by a service network that is arguably the strongest in the Middle East. It represents a refined alternative to more utilitarian mid-size sedans, focusing on driver engagement and cabin quality.

This Car vs Other 2016 Maximas

At 186,000 km, this Maxima has been driven approximately 23,000 km per year, which aligns perfectly with the GCC average for long-distance highway commuters. The grey exterior is a practical choice for the region, showing less dust than darker shades and maintaining a higher resale demand than non-standard colors. Choosing this model year provides the benefit of the eighth-generation redesign, offering significantly sharper styling and improved structural rigidity over older versions.

SL vs Lower Trims

The SL trim is a major step up for the GCC climate and lifestyle, adding a dual-panel panoramic moonroof and a premium 11-speaker Bose audio system that isn't found on the S or SV models. Most importantly for highway safety, the SL introduces the full suite of driver-assist technologies including Blind Spot Warning, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, and Adaptive Cruise Control. You also get a heated steering wheel and adjustable ambient lighting, which elevate the cabin beyond the entry-level leather found in the SV.

Maxima vs Segment Rivals

Compared to rivals like the Toyota Avalon or Honda Accord V6, the Maxima focuses more heavily on a driver-centric 'cockpit' feel and aggressive power delivery. Its 68-liter fuel tank is optimized for long desert highway stretches, ensuring fewer stops on trips between Dubai and Riyadh. While competitors often prioritize soft suspension, the Maxima offers a more controlled, sporty ride that stays planted at highway speeds.

Running Costs & Resale

The 3.5L V6 is remarkably efficient for its size, achieving approximately 9.5 L/100km on a combined cycle, though GCC city traffic will see this rise. Nissan's authorized service network is among the most extensive in the UAE and Saudi Arabia, ensuring parts are affordable and readily available even for American-spec vehicles. As a Japanese flagship, it retains value better than many European executive sedans, typically depreciating at a manageable rate within the local market.

Performance & Capability

The 300-horsepower VQ-series V6 engine is the heart of this sedan, delivering enough torque to make highway overtaking effortless even in high summer temperatures. The Xtronic CVT has been specifically tuned with 'D-Step' logic to mimic traditional gear changes during spirited driving, providing a more connected feel. With a sport-tuned chassis and multiple drive modes, it offers a level of agility that most family-oriented mid-size sedans cannot match.

Comfort & Cabin

Inside, the SL trim features a bespoke 'Command Central' layout with an 8-inch touchscreen tilted toward the driver for better visibility in bright GCC sunlight. The dual-zone climate control is robust, a necessity for the local heat, and is supported by rear passenger vents to keep the whole cabin cool. Acoustic glass and improved insulation ensure that highway wind noise is kept to a minimum, allowing the 11-speaker Bose system to shine.

Safety

Safety is a priority in the SL trim, featuring Forward Emergency Braking and Predictive Forward Collision Warning that can monitor two cars ahead. These systems are invaluable for fast-moving GCC highway traffic where sudden braking is common. Standard blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alerts provide additional peace of mind during city navigation and parking.

The bottom line

Perfect for the professional commuter who wants a '4-door sports car' feel without sacrificing Nissan’s legendary GCC reliability and service ease.
