Summary

This 2017 Kia Sorento EX is a versatile family crossover that bridges the gap between mid-size maneuverability and full-size 7-seat utility. Powered by the refined 3.3L V6 engine, it offers significant highway overtaking confidence and a towing capacity that rivals many larger SUVs. As an American-spec model, it features a level of interior technology and safety equipment that was often optional on local counterparts, making it a high-value entry into the family SUV segment. Its All-Wheel Drive system and generous cabin cooling make it a dependable choice for both city commutes in Dubai and long-distance road trips across the GCC.

This Car vs Other 2017 Sorentos

With 160,000 km, this Sorento aligns with the average highway-heavy usage typical of GCC-based family vehicles of this age. The grey exterior is a neutral and highly practical choice for the region, as it hides dust well and maintains strong resale interest. For a 2017 model, the mechanical condition of the V6 powertrain remains a priority for buyers looking for long-term durability over the smaller four-cylinder alternatives.

EX vs Lower Trims

The EX trim provides a significant jump in luxury over the LX, adding genuine leather upholstery, heated front seats, and dual-zone automatic climate control—essential for individual comfort during summer. It also introduces the UVO infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, alongside push-button start and rear parking sensors that are not standard on lower configurations.

Sorento vs Segment Rivals

The Sorento is often cross-shoppped with the Toyota Highlander and Nissan Pathfinder. It leads many in this class by offering a more car-like, monocoque driving experience that is easier to park in tight city spaces while still providing a 2,267 kg towing capacity. Its 71-litre fuel tank provides excellent range for the long desert highways between emirates.

Running Costs & Resale

The 3.3L V6 engine typically sees real-world fuel consumption of approximately 11–13 L/100km in mixed GCC driving conditions. Kia has one of the most extensive authorized service networks across the UAE and Saudi Arabia, ensuring that parts and maintenance remain affordable and accessible. While it experiences higher initial depreciation than Japanese rivals, the Sorento maintains a steady value floor due to its high demand in the secondary family market.

Performance & Capability

The standout performance metric is the 290 horsepower delivered by the GDI V6, providing smooth linear power that is better suited for highway cruising than the smaller turbo engines found in competitors. The Dynamax AWD system provides active torque distribution, which improves stability on gravel tracks or during sudden rain showers on the E11. With 185 mm of ground clearance, it is perfectly capable for weekend camping trips and light off-road paths.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is configured with three rows to accommodate seven passengers, with a sliding second row that allows you to prioritize legroom or cargo space. The EX trim's leather-wrapped interior is designed for comfort on long drives, supported by dedicated rear air conditioning vents to ensure all three rows stay cool in extreme heat. Acoustic windshield glass helps keep the cabin quiet and insulated from external road noise.

Safety

This Sorento comes equipped with a comprehensive safety suite, including six airbags, electronic stability control, and a rearview camera with rear parking sensors. As a 5-star NHTSA safety-rated vehicle, it provides peace of mind for family transport. The inclusion of blind-spot detection and rear cross-traffic alert on this trim is particularly useful for navigating multi-lane highway traffic in major GCC cities.

The bottom line

This Sorento EX is the ideal opportunity for a buyer seeking V6 power and 7-seat versatility at a price point that undercuts newer, smaller crossovers.
