Summary

This 2017 Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S represents the peak of the W166 generation, featuring the legendary 5.5L biturbo V8 that is now highly sought after following the industry shift to smaller displacements. Finished in timeless black—the strongest resale color for high-performance SUVs in the UAE—this GCC-spec example has been maintained for the region's high-speed highway lifestyle. While the mileage reflects active use across the Emirates, these hand-built AMG powerplants are engineered for durability if serviced correctly at the 10,000 km intervals recommended for this climate. For a buyer seeking the visceral soundtrack of a genuine AMG V8 and the presence of a flagship SUV, this S-model offers a significant performance edge over the standard GLE 63.

This Car vs Other 2017 GLE 63 Ss

At 154,722 km, this vehicle’s mileage is average for a 2017 model in the GCC, where annual distances often reach 25,000 km due to inter-city highway commutes. Its black-on-black configuration is the most liquid color combination in the local used market, ensuring it retains a premium over more niche colors. As a genuine GCC-spec vehicle, it avoids the cooling system and radio frequency issues often found in imported North American examples.

S vs Lower Trims

The S-Model is the definitive range-topper, boosting output from the standard 557 hp to a massive 585 hp and 760 Nm of torque. Beyond the engine tune, this trim adds 21-inch AMG alloy wheels, red-painted brake calipers, and the Active Curve System with active stabilizer bars for flatter cornering. Inside, you receive the AMG Performance steering wheel in Dinamica microfiber and standard ventilated Nappa leather seats—essential features for the GCC summer.

GLE 63 S vs Segment Rivals

The GLE 63 S leads the BMW X5 M and Porsche Cayenne Turbo in raw engine character, utilizing a larger 5.5L displacement that provides a more muscular low-end torque delivery. Its 93-litre fuel tank offers superior cruising range for long desert highway drives compared to many rivals with smaller tanks. Additionally, the Mercedes AIRMATIC suspension provides a more forgiving ride quality on urban Dubai roads than the stiffer, track-focused BMW.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption typically averages 15.8 L/100km in mixed GCC driving, though heavy-footed city traffic will see this rise. Mercedes-Benz maintains one of the most robust authorized service networks across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Oman, ensuring parts for the M157 engine are readily available. While European performance SUVs depreciate faster than Japanese luxury alternatives, the GLE 63 S maintains a dedicated enthusiast following in the UAE, providing better value retention than the non-S variants.

Performance & Capability

Propelled by a handcrafted 585 hp V8, this SUV hits 100 km/h in just 4.2 seconds and can reach a limited top speed of 250 km/h (extendable to 280 km/h with the AMG Driver’s Package). The AMG Performance 4MATIC system features a 40:60 rear-biased torque split, providing a sporty feel while maintaining all-weather traction on rain-slicked highways or gravel tracks. Multiple drive modes, including Comfort and Sport+, allow the driver to instantly adjust the air suspension and exhaust note to suit the environment.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is a sanctuary of luxury, featuring tri-zone climate control with dedicated rear vents to combat extreme heat. The 5-seat layout provides ample legroom for family road trips, while the Harmon Kardon Logic 7 surround sound system delivers exceptional audio clarity. Double-glazing and thick acoustic insulation ensure the cabin remains quiet even at high highway speeds, isolating passengers from wind and road noise.

Safety

Standard safety tech for this GCC-spec S-Model includes a 360° camera for effortless parking, Blind Spot Assist for fast-moving highway traffic, and Lane Keeping Assist. The Pre-Safe system and Collision Prevention Assist Plus provide active layers of protection, while the high-performance AMG braking system with cross-drilled rotors ensures consistent stopping power under high-temperature conditions. Adaptive braking technology also aids in maintaining stability during emergency maneuvers on sandy surfaces.

The bottom line

This is a prime opportunity for a performance enthusiast to own a hand-built AMG V8 flagship that is perfectly configured for the GCC's demanding climate and fast-paced lifestyle.
