Summary

This 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLE 63 AMG S is a definitive performance SUV, pairing a hand-assembled V8 with the presence of a flagship crossover. The silver exterior is a high-demand choice in the GCC, offering excellent heat reflection and maintaining its resale value better than darker tones. While the mileage reflects active use, the 5.5L M157 engine is widely regarded by local specialists for its robust performance and durability on long desert highways. It offers a more visceral driving experience than its modern 4.0L successors, making it a standout choice for those who value mechanical character. As a GCC-spec vehicle, it is fully equipped to handle extreme summer temperatures with optimized cooling systems and a premium cabin layout.

This Car vs Other 2017 GLE 63 AMGs

With 182,564 km, this vehicle has seen more of the road than the typical 20,000 km per year average in the UAE, yet it remains a mechanically sound choice for the long-distance highway driving common across the region. The silver finish is one of the most practical colors for the local climate, hiding dust effectively and ensuring strong appeal in the secondary market.

S vs Lower Trims

The S trim is the ultimate expression of the GLE range, boosting the 5.5L V8 output from 557 hp to 585 hp. It adds essential high-end equipment like 21-inch AMG wheels, red-painted brake calipers, and a microfiber-trimmed AMG Performance steering wheel. Inside, the S features Nappa leather and standard ventilated seats, a critical feature for summer comfort in the GCC.

GLE 63 AMG vs Segment Rivals

This model competes directly with the BMW X5 M and the Porsche Cayenne Turbo. While the BMW offers sharp, clinical handling, the GLE 63 S leads with its deep, thunderous exhaust note and superior ride comfort thanks to its air suspension. It is often preferred in the UAE for its balanced character, offering more luxury and a softer highway cruise than its stiffer German rivals.

Running Costs & Resale

Fuel consumption is rated at approximately 11.9 L/100km combined, though GCC city traffic will see urban figures closer to 15.8 L/100km. Service intervals are required every 15,000 km at authorized Mercedes-Benz centers, which are readily available across every major city in the UAE and Saudi Arabia. While European performance SUVs depreciate faster than Japanese luxury cars, the GLE 63 S maintains a dedicated enthusiast following in the local market, helping it retain value better than standard GLE models.

Performance & Capability

The heart of this SUV is the hand-built 5.5L V8 biturbo, delivering a massive 760 Nm of torque for effortless overtaking on highways like the E11. Its 0–100 km/h time of 4.2 seconds rivals many dedicated sports cars, while the 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system ensures maximum traction on both paved roads and light gravel tracks during weekend escapes.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is a sanctuary of luxury, featuring a five-seat layout with generous legroom for all passengers and a 651-litre boot. GCC-specific comfort is prioritized with powerful multi-zone climate control and ventilated front seats to combat the summer heat. The acoustics are exceptionally well-insulated, keeping the cabin quiet even at high highway speeds across the Emirates.

Safety

Standard safety equipment on the S trim includes a 360-degree camera for easy parking in tight city spaces and an advanced suite of driver aids. Features like Blind Spot Assist and Adaptive Cruise Control are particularly beneficial for the fast-paced highway traffic between Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Collision Prevention Assist Plus and high-performance AMG brakes provide a high level of security for family road trips.

The bottom line

This GLE 63 AMG S is perfect for the buyer who wants flagship German performance and a hand-built V8 at a more accessible entry point, backed by the reliability of a full GCC specification.
