Summary

This 2017 Mitsubishi ASX GLX Midline is a highly practical choice for the GCC driver, balancing Japanese reliability with manageable urban dimensions. Its distinctive Blue exterior makes it a refreshing alternative to the standard silver and white fleet, while the Midline trim provides essential tech like Bluetooth and parking sensors. For a vehicle of this age, it stands out for its mechanical simplicity and parts availability, ensuring long-term ownership remains stress-free. As a GCC-spec model, it is factory-prepared for the region’s extreme heat, making it a dependable daily commuter between cities. It remains one of the most cost-effective entry points into the SUV segment for those who value durability over complex electronics.

This Car vs Other 2017 ASX s

With 152,000 km on the odometer, this ASX sits at an average mileage for its year in the GCC market, where highway-heavy commutes often result in higher annual use. While many rivals may show lower figures, the ASX is celebrated for a robust powertrain that handles high mileage with ease. The Blue exterior is a standout choice that remains popular in the secondary market for those seeking a more personal touch.

GLX MIDLINE vs Lower Trims

The Midline trim upgrades the ownership experience with key convenience features that GCC buyers value, including 16-inch alloy wheels and front fog lamps. Inside, you benefit from steering wheel-mounted audio controls and Bluetooth connectivity, providing a safer and more connected drive compared to the base GLX. These additions make the Midline a significantly more attractive prospect at resale than the entry-level variants.

ASX vs Segment Rivals

The ASX leads rivals like the Mazda CX-3 in terms of cargo practicality, offering a more usable 358-litre boot and better rear headroom. Compared to the Nissan X-Trail of the same era, the ASX offers a more compact footprint that makes it much easier to park in crowded city districts like Dubai Marina or Riyadh’s city centre. Its straightforward 2.0-litre engine is often preferred by local mechanics over the turbocharged or dual-clutch setups found in some European competitors.

Running Costs & Resale

Ownership costs are among the lowest in the SUV segment due to the widespread availability of affordable spare parts across the UAE and wider GCC. The 2.0-litre engine is designed for efficiency, delivering an official combined fuel economy of 8.0 L/100km, which translates well to long highway stretches between Emirates. Mitsubishi’s extensive authorised service network ensures that maintenance is convenient regardless of which GCC country you are in. Resale value remains strong, typically depreciating at a slower rate than non-Japanese rivals in the local market.

Performance & Capability

Powered by a reliable 4-cylinder engine, the ASX delivers 150 hp, providing smooth and predictable power for daily urban transit and highway overtaking. The automatic transmission is tuned for comfort, ensuring a relaxed drive during stop-start traffic in major GCC cities. While designed primarily as a road-biased crossover, its generous ground clearance allows it to handle gravel paths and speed bumps with more confidence than a standard sedan. It is an ideal companion for weekend road trips between the coast and the mountains.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is designed with GCC summer comfort in mind, featuring a high-output air conditioning system that is legendary for its cooling performance in extreme heat. The 5-seat layout offers ample legroom for a compact SUV, and the 60:40 split-folding rear seats allow for flexible cargo configurations. Fabric seat upholstery is a practical choice for the local climate, as it remains cooler to the touch than leather after hours in the sun. Quality insulation helps keep the cabin quiet during high-speed highway cruising.

Safety

The 2017 ASX is equipped with essential safety systems including ABS with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist to ensure stable stopping power on sandy or wet roads. This trim typically includes dual front airbags and Active Stability Control (ASC), which are vital for maintaining traction during sudden maneuvers. Its solid construction and 5-star ANCAP safety heritage provide peace of mind for family use in fast-moving highway traffic.

The bottom line

This ASX is perfect for the pragmatic GCC buyer looking for a reliable, easy-to-maintain SUV that balances city-friendly size with proven Japanese durability.
