Summary

This 2017 Subaru WRX STI is a standout performance sedan, featuring the iconic World Rally Blue paint that remains the most sought-after color for resale in the GCC. With mileage significantly below the regional average for its age, it represents a well-preserved example of a rally-bred legend that is increasingly difficult to find in such condition. The STI trim offers a mechanical sophistication far beyond the standard WRX, making it the definitive choice for enthusiasts who value tactile feedback and precision. In the UAE's competitive performance market, this GCC-spec model provides the cooling efficiency and official support necessary for high-heat reliability.

This Car vs Other 2017 WRXs

At under 70,000 km, this vehicle has been driven roughly 10,000 km per year, which is less than half the typical 20,000–25,000 km average seen in the GCC. This low-usage profile ensures the turbocharged powertrain and Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system haven't faced the usual wear of heavy highway commuting. The World Rally Blue exterior is a high-demand signature color, typically commanding a faster sale and better value retention than silver or grey equivalents in the local market.

STI vs Lower Trims

The STI is a significant mechanical upgrade over the standard WRX, replacing the 2.0-litre engine with a high-output 2.5-litre Boxer unit. It adds specialized performance hardware including a high-performance Brembo braking system, a stiffer track-tuned suspension, and the Driver Controlled Center Differential (DCCD) for manual torque-split adjustment. Inside, you benefit from upgraded Alcantara sport seats and dual-zone climate control as standard, features that enhance comfort during the UAE summer.

WRX vs Segment Rivals

Compared to rivals like the Volkswagen Golf R or Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution, the WRX STI offers a unique mechanical AWD system that provides superior mechanical grip on sandy or uneven surfaces common in the region. Its 460-litre boot capacity makes it more practical for daily use than many dedicated sports cars, while its rally heritage ensures a more engaging, driver-centric experience than more sterilized German competitors. The wide-body design and large signature rear wing give it a road presence that few other compact sedans can match.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for the 2.5-litre turbo engine typically averages around 10.4 L/100km, though this can increase in stop-start city traffic in Dubai or Riyadh. Service intervals are recommended every 10,000 km at authorized Subaru centers, which are well-established across the UAE and Saudi Arabia. The STI trim historically enjoys a flatter depreciation curve than the standard WRX due to its enthusiast following and discontinued status in newer generations, making it a relatively stable automotive investment in the GCC.

Performance & Capability

The 300 hp output translates to a rapid 0-100 km/h time of 5.2 seconds, offering plenty of power for confident highway overtaking on fast-moving roads like the E11. Its Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive and active torque vectoring provide immense stability during high-speed cornering and in adverse weather conditions. Multiple drive modes via Subaru Intelligent Drive (SI-DRIVE) allow you to sharpen throttle response for weekend drives at Jebel Jais or soften it for daily commutes through the city.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin features a driver-focused layout with 5-passenger seating and a premium leather-wrapped flat-bottom steering wheel. The dual-zone automatic climate control is specifically engineered to handle high ambient temperatures, ensuring rapid cabin cooling even after being parked in the sun. Thoughtful inclusions like the 60/40 split-folding rear seats and a 6.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system provide modern convenience without distracting from the focused driving environment.

Safety

Safety is managed by Subaru’s reinforced ring-shaped reinforcement frame and a comprehensive suite of seven airbags. Standard equipment includes Active Torque Vectoring, Multi-mode Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC), and a Traction Control System that are particularly effective for maintaining grip on gravel-strewn surfaces or during sudden rain showers. The Brembo brakes provide consistent, fade-resistant stopping power, essential for the high-speed traffic flows typical of GCC highways.

The bottom line

This is a rare opportunity to own a low-mileage, GCC-spec STI in its most iconic color, offering a perfect balance of daily usability and raw performance for the discerning UAE enthusiast.
