Summary

This 2023 Hyundai Elantra SMART offers an ideal balance of modern styling and proven mechanical reliability for the GCC market. With its efficient 1.6L engine, it is perfectly suited for daily city commuting in Riyadh or Dubai while maintaining excellent highway manners. Silver remains one of the most sought-after resale colors in the region due to its ability to hide desert dust and reflect heat. This specific SMART trim provides a significant step up in cabin technology over the base models, making it a highly practical choice for those prioritizing low running costs. For any GCC buyer, the widespread availability of parts and service centers makes this one of the most stress-free ownership propositions in the sedan segment.

This Car vs Other 2023 Elantras

With 89,000 km over 3 years, this Elantra has been driven approximately 29,000 km annually. While this is slightly above the global average, it is standard for the GCC where long-distance highway commutes are routine. The silver exterior is a top-tier choice for the local market, ensuring the car stays cooler in the summer and retains higher resale value compared to darker or niche colors.

SMART vs Lower Trims

The SMART trim adds essential convenience features that GCC buyers value, including a larger 8-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Unlike base trims, you also benefit from a rearview camera and rear parking sensors, which are vital for tight city parking. It bridges the gap between the entry-level workhorse models and the premium tech-heavy variants.

Elantra vs Segment Rivals

The Elantra leads rivals like the Toyota Corolla and Nissan Sunny in terms of interior legroom and trunk space, offering 474 liters of cargo capacity. Its fuel tank size is optimized for long desert highway runs, providing a range that often exceeds 700 km on a single fill. While rivals focus on basic utility, the Elantra offers a more driver-centric cabin and a more compliant suspension for long-distance comfort.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel economy averages around 6.7 L/100km, making it highly economical for stop-start traffic in major GCC cities. Service intervals are typically every 10,000 km, and Hyundai's authorized network is one of the most robust in the UAE and Saudi Arabia, ensuring low maintenance costs. The Elantra holds its value exceptionally well, typically retaining over 60% of its original price at the 3-year mark.

Performance & Capability

The 1.6L 4-cylinder engine produces 125 hp, providing smooth and linear acceleration that is ideal for urban environments. On the highway, the 6-speed automatic transmission is tuned for efficiency, keeping RPMs low to reduce cabin noise during long drives. While not a performance car, its front-wheel-drive layout and 150mm ground clearance handle the occasional gravel road or uneven city street with ease.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is designed to combat the extreme GCC heat with a powerful air conditioning system and dedicated rear vents for passenger comfort. High-quality fabric seating is chosen for its durability and heat resistance compared to leather in the summer months. Sound insulation is notably better for its class, keeping the cabin quiet during high-speed highway cruising.

Safety

Standard safety on the SMART trim includes a robust suite of airbags and Electronic Stability Control, essential for maintaining traction on sandy road surfaces. It also features ISOFIX anchors for family use and a Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) which is critical for safety during high-temperature summer drives. The 2023 generation also benefits from a high-strength steel chassis for improved impact protection.

The bottom line

This Elantra is a smart investment for a GCC professional or small family looking for a reliable, fuel-efficient sedan with a strong resale profile. It offers modern tech and a comfortable cabin in the region's most practical color, backed by the best service network in the market.
