Summary

This 2017 Toyota Hilux GL is the ultimate regional workhorse, combining a 2.7L petrol engine with a robust four-wheel-drive system. At nine years old, its 150,000 km mileage is exactly in line with GCC averages for a commercial vehicle, signaling a life of steady, reliable use rather than extreme neglect. The white exterior is the gold standard for resale in the UAE and Saudi markets, while the GL trim provides the essential 4x4 hardware needed for both job sites and desert escapes. For any buyer in the GCC, the most important factor is the Hilux's legendary parts availability, ensuring that maintenance remains straightforward from Dubai to Muscat.

This Car vs Other 2017 Hiluxs

With 150,000 km on the odometer, this Hilux sits at the sweet spot of 16,600 km per year, which is lower than the typical 20,000-25,000 km annual average seen in the GCC. While many Hilux units from this year have been pushed to 200,000+ km in heavy commercial fleets, this example represents a more moderate usage profile. The white paint is a significant asset for local resale, as it remains the most sought-after color for heat reflection and market liquidity.

GL vs Lower Trims

The GL trim bridges the gap between the bare-bones utility of the S trim and the lifestyle focus of the GLX. Unlike base variants, the GL provides the essential double-cab configuration and four-wheel-drive system as standard, making it far more capable for weekend excursions or soft sand driving. It retains the durable fabric interior and high-impact plastics that GCC owners prefer for easy cleaning after desert trips or job site visits.

Hilux vs Segment Rivals

When compared to the Mitsubishi L200 or Isuzu D-Max, the Hilux leads on sheer reliability and the width of its service network across the entire GCC. While rivals might offer different tech, the Hilux's 2.7L engine is specifically tuned for the high-sulfur fuel and extreme heat common in the region. Its resale value is consistently the highest in the segment, often retaining 10-15% more value over a 5-year period than its nearest competitors.

Running Costs & Resale

The 2.7L petrol engine typically returns between 9.5 and 10.5 L/100km in mixed GCC driving conditions, making it a predictable performer for long-distance hauls. Being a GCC spec Toyota, it benefits from the most extensive authorized service network in the Middle East, with parts available in almost every major city. Hilux depreciation is among the lowest in the automotive world; a well-maintained 9-year-old unit remains a high-liquidity asset that can be sold quickly in any GCC market.

Performance & Capability

With a 3,500 kg braked towing capacity, this Hilux is ready for heavy-duty hauling across the Emirates. The selectable 4x4 system and body-on-frame construction provide the necessary durability for rocky wadi floors and soft desert dunes. While it produces a steady 164 hp, the real strength lies in its low-end torque and the 6-speed automatic transmission that handles stop-start city traffic and highway cruising with equal composure.

Comfort & Cabin

The five-seat double-cab layout is designed for maximum utility, offering enough room for a crew or a family. A hallmark of the GCC Hilux is its high-output air conditioning system, which is engineered to maintain cabin comfort even when external temperatures exceed 45°C. Rear cooling vents and durable upholstery ensure that the interior remains a functional, comfortable environment regardless of the work being done outside.

Safety

This Hilux GL comes equipped with essential safety features including dual front airbags and an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) as standard. The Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) is particularly useful for maintaining stability when the bed is fully loaded or when towing. For highway safety, the vehicle's high seating position provides excellent visibility for spotting fast-moving traffic on multi-lane desert roads.

The bottom line

For the buyer who needs a dependable, high-resale 4x4 that is as comfortable on a worksite as it is on a weekend camping trip, this GCC-spec Hilux is the most logical choice in the market today.
