Summary

This 2018 BMW 740Li M Sport Pack represents a sophisticated entry into the executive segment, offering the desirable long-wheelbase silhouette that is highly prized in the GCC market. With black being a premier resale color in the region, this vehicle maintains a strong presence and value profile compared to lighter tones. At eight years old, its mileage reflects a car that has been utilized for the long-distance highway commutes typical of the UAE and Saudi Arabia, rather than sitting idle in extreme heat. The M Sport trim adds a necessary sharp edge to the 7 Series' luxury, making it a standout choice for those who drive themselves rather than being chauffeured. For the GCC buyer, the combination of the robust B58 engine and the extended rear legroom makes this a versatile flagship capable of handling both daily city traffic and cross-emirate trips with ease.

This Car vs Other 2018 740Lis

While many 2018 models in the GCC show higher wear due to the region's intense summer sun, this black-on-black example retains the high-gloss appeal essential for resale. Its mileage is consistent with the higher annual averages found in the UAE, indicating a vehicle that has been maintained through regular highway cycles which often results in better mechanical health than stop-start city cars. The GCC specification ensures the cooling systems and air conditioning are calibrated specifically for the 50-degree summer peaks.

M SPORT PACK vs Lower Trims

The M Sport Pack elevates the 740Li from a standard executive sedan to a more aggressive performer, adding the M Aerodynamic body kit, Shadowline exterior trim, and 19-inch or 20-inch M-specific light alloy wheels. Inside, it replaces the standard steering wheel with an M leather unit and adds Anthracite headlining, features that significantly enhance the cabin's premium feel. In the GCC used market, M Sport models typically command a 10-15% premium at resale compared to the base Pure Excellence or standard trims.

740Li vs Segment Rivals

The 740Li competes directly with the Mercedes-Benz S450 and Audi A8L, leading the group in driver engagement and infotainment ergonomics via the intuitive iDrive system with gesture control. Its 78-liter fuel tank is perfectly sized for the long highway stretches between Dubai and Muscat or Riyadh and Dammam, offering a cruising range that rivals the best in class. Compared to the Lexus LS, the BMW offers a more turbocharged, torque-heavy delivery that is better suited for high-speed overtaking on the E11.

Running Costs & Resale

The 3.0L inline-six is noted for its efficiency, achieving approximately 7.0L/100km on combined cycles, though GCC city driving will see this closer to 9.5L/100km. BMW's authorized service network is extensive across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait, ensuring parts availability and expert maintenance are never an issue. While European luxury sedans typically see a depreciation of 12-18% annually in the GCC, the 740Li M Sport holds its value better than the V8 750Li due to lower long-term maintenance costs and higher demand for the 6-cylinder engine.

Performance & Capability

A 0-100 km/h time of 5.6 seconds is impressive for a vehicle of this size, powered by the award-winning B58 engine producing 326 hp and 450 Nm of torque. The Rear Wheel Drive setup paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission provides the classic BMW driving dynamics that are rare in the luxury sedan segment. On the highway, the air suspension levels the car for maximum stability, while the selectable drive modes allow for a sharper throttle response when navigating the hills of Hatta or the Jebel Jais mountain roads.

Comfort & Cabin

The 'Li' designation signifies the long-wheelbase version, providing significant extra legroom in the rear that is essential for family comfort in the GCC. The cabin features a 10.2-inch display and Harman Kardon surround sound as standard, alongside four-zone climate control to ensure every passenger stays cool regardless of the exterior temperature. M Sport specific finishes, such as the Fineline Black wood trim, provide a modern aesthetic that avoids the dated look of lighter wood grains found in base models.

Safety

Standard safety equipment includes an extensive airbag system and BMW's Active Guard, which provides front-collision warnings and city braking functions. For GCC highway driving, the lane departure warning and blind-spot detection are invaluable, while the 360-degree camera system makes parking this long-body sedan effortless in tight mall parking bays. The vehicle also features adaptive LED headlights that provide superior visibility during night drives across unlit desert roads.

The bottom line

This 740Li M Sport is the ideal choice for a professional who seeks the prestige of a flagship BMW with the sporty aesthetics and better resale potential of the M-tuned trim. It offers the perfect balance of prestige and performance for the discerning GCC motorist.
