Summary

This 2018 Mercedes-Benz S560 represents the pinnacle of executive transport, combining an effortless V8 powertrain with all-wheel-drive stability for the region's high-speed highways. For a car of this age, the high mileage indicates a life spent largely on long-distance cruises, which is mechanically preferable to stop-start city wear for a German flagship. Black is a perennially strong resale color in the GCC, ensuring this S-Class remains a liquid asset for its next owner. While it faces stiff competition, its reputation for cabin quietness and 'Magic Body Control' engineering makes it the benchmark for the segment. This is a rare opportunity to own a modern S-Class that delivers the presence and performance of an AMG with a more refined, executive character.

This Car vs Other 2018 S560s

With 218,000 km, this vehicle has covered significantly more distance than the average 2018 model in the UAE, which typically sees 120,000–150,000 km. However, in the GCC market, high-mileage luxury sedans are often better maintained by specialized centers to ensure reliability on inter-city commutes. The black-on-black configuration is the most sought-after combination for resale in Dubai and Riyadh, providing a significant edge over lighter or niche colors.

STANDARD vs Lower Trims

The S560 serves as a massive leap over the V6-powered S450, introducing the 4.0L biturbo V8 that is fundamentally shared with AMG GT performance models. In addition to the power increase, this trim standardizes the 13-speaker Burmester audio system and enhanced cabin insulation that GCC buyers prioritize for a silent, cool sanctuary. It also features the updated 9G-TRONIC transmission, providing smoother shifts and better highway efficiency than earlier S-Class iterations.

S560 vs Segment Rivals

Compared to the BMW 7 Series and Audi A8, the S-Class leads in sheer cabin isolation and ride quality, particularly when dealing with the high-frequency vibrations of older GCC motorways. Its 80-litre fuel tank provides a superior cruising range for the long Dubai-to-Muscat or Riyadh-to-Jeddah runs. While rivals lean toward a sportier cockpit, the S560 focuses on a 'lounge' experience that is consistently preferred by executive buyers in the region.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for this 4.0L V8 typically averages around 11.5L/100km on GCC highways, though heavy traffic in major cities can see this rise toward 16L/100km. Mercedes-Benz has an extensive authorized service network across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait, ensuring parts for the 2018 generation remain readily available. While Japanese-spec cars may trade at a slight discount to GCC-spec equivalents, the S560 generally retains roughly 45-50% of its value at the 8-year mark in the local market.

Performance & Capability

The 469 hp biturbo V8 allows this massive sedan to reach 100 km/h in just 4.6 seconds, ensuring effortless overtaking on fast-moving highways like Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road. The 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system provides crucial stability during the region's occasional rain and sandstorms, maintaining traction where rear-drive rivals might struggle. It is electronically limited to 250 km/h, delivering a planted, tank-like feel even at sustained high speeds.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin features dual 12.3-inch high-resolution displays and a 64-color ambient lighting system that sets the standard for interior atmosphere. Given the GCC climate, the high-capacity air conditioning and standard ionizer system are essential for maintaining a dust-free, cool environment during 45°C+ summers. This Japanese-spec model often includes high-grade leather and wood trims that have been exceptionally preserved due to Japan's strict climate-controlled parking culture.

Safety

The 2018 S560 comes equipped with a comprehensive ADAS suite, including Distronic Plus adaptive cruise control and active steering assist, which significantly reduces driver fatigue on long desert stretches. It features nine airbags and an industry-leading Pre-Safe system that can detect imminent collisions and prepare the cabin for impact. The 360° camera system is standard, making the management of this large sedan simple in tight urban parking environments.

The bottom line

For the buyer who wants the status and V8 power of a flagship Mercedes at a fraction of its original cost, this S560 is a calculated choice where maintenance history outranks the odometer. It is perfectly suited for a high-mileage commuter who values highway comfort above all else.
