Mercedes Benz S63 AMG STANDARD

Highlights

• 0–100 km/h in 3.5 seconds
• 612 hp from a hand-built 4.0L V8
• 900 Nm of torque

Summary

This 2018 S63 AMG represents the highly desirable facelift generation, featuring the superior 4.0-litre bi-turbo V8 that replaced the older 5.5-litre unit. With just over 70,000 km, this sedan has been driven significantly less than the typical GCC annual average, offering a mechanically fresh experience for its next owner. The deep black exterior remains the most sought-after resale color in the UAE, ensuring strong value retention when it's time to upgrade. As a Japanese-spec import, it has benefited from Japan’s famously strict maintenance standards and light road usage. For a GCC buyer, this provides a rare opportunity to own the ultimate expression of the W222 S-Class at a more accessible entry point than local-spec alternatives.

This Car vs Other 2018 S63 AMGs

With 70,025 km on the odometer, this S63 AMG has covered roughly 11,500 km per year, which is significantly below the typical GCC average of 20,000–25,000 km for high-end luxury sedans. Its Japanese origin often indicates a life spent on well-surfaced roads with meticulous service records compared to high-mileage regional examples. The black-on-black configuration is a 'safe' investment in the Middle East, consistently commanding higher demand than lighter or more niche color palettes.

STANDARD vs Lower Trims

While 'Standard' in name, the S63 AMG sits at the top of the S-Class hierarchy, adding the handcrafted V8 engine and the 9-speed MCT transmission that the S560 lacks. It features the AMG-specific 4MATIC+ fully variable all-wheel-drive system and high-performance compound brakes as standard equipment. Inside, you receive the exclusive IWC-design analogue clock, AMG sports seats with enhanced lateral support, and a dedicated AMG menu in the digital cockpit not found in non-performance trims.

S63 AMG vs Segment Rivals

The S63 AMG leads the BMW M760Li and Audi S8 in blending absolute rear-seat opulence with supercar-level acceleration. While the BMW relies on a heavier V12, the Mercedes 4.0L V8 offers a more agile front end and superior torque-to-weight delivery. Its Air-Balance cabin fragrancing and Energizing Comfort systems provide a level of sensory luxury that rivals struggle to match, making it the preferred choice for those who value cabin atmosphere as much as raw speed.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption typically hovers around 12–14 L/100km in GCC stop-start traffic, dropping to approximately 9 L/100km during long-distance highway cruises between emirates. Service intervals for the AMG V8 are set at 15,000 km or 12 months, and Mercedes-Benz maintains the most extensive authorized service network in the UAE and Saudi Arabia. While Japanese imports can see a slight depreciation delta compared to GCC-spec cars, the facelifted W222 S63 remains one of the most stable luxury assets in the regional market.

Performance & Capability

The 612 hp output allows this 2.2-tonne sedan to hit 100 km/h in just 3.5 seconds, providing effortless overtaking power on the E11 highway. The Race Start function and variable 4MATIC+ system ensure maximum traction even on dusty or heat-slicked road surfaces common in the Gulf. Dynamic Select modes allow the driver to transition from a silent executive cruiser to a snarling performance machine, aided by the active exhaust system and adaptive air suspension.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is a sanctuary designed for the Middle Eastern summer, featuring high-output quad-zone climate control and ventilated front seats as standard. The dual 12.3-inch high-resolution displays provide a seamless interface for navigation and media, while the Burmester surround sound system offers concert-hall acoustics. Acoustic glass and thick insulation ensure the interior remains remarkably quiet, even when cruising at high speeds across cross-border desert highways.

Safety

Standard safety features include the Pre-Safe Impulse Side system, which can move the driver or passenger away from a side impact, and a sophisticated 360-degree camera system essential for navigating tight urban parking. Active Brake Assist, Evasive Steering Assist, and Active Lane Keeping provide a comprehensive safety net for long-distance desert drives. The 4MATIC+ system further enhances active safety by providing superior stability during sudden maneuvers on sand-dusted asphalt.

The bottom line

For the executive who demands the performance of a supercar with the prestige of a flagship Mercedes, this low-mileage 2018 S63 AMG is the definitive choice in the current market.
