Highlights

Summary

This 2018 Toyota Hilux GLX is a standout choice in the GCC market, offering the perfect balance of utility and legendary reliability. With just over 66,000 km on the clock, its mileage is significantly lower than the regional average for an 8-year-old vehicle, suggesting light use rather than heavy site work. The black exterior is a perennially strong resale color in the UAE and Saudi Arabia, holding value better than niche shades. As a GCC-spec model, it is purpose-built to handle extreme summer heat with a cooling system far superior to imported alternatives. For buyers needing a dependable workhorse that transitions seamlessly into a desert weekend companion, this Hilux is the definitive regional benchmark.

This Car vs Other 2018 Hiluxs

At 66,208 km, this vehicle has averaged roughly 8,276 km per year, which is exceptionally low for the GCC where 20,000–25,000 km is the standard. Most 2018 models on the market have surpassed the 150,000 km mark, giving this specific unit a distinct mechanical advantage. The black paint remains a top-tier choice for resale, ensuring it stays in high demand compared to less popular configurations.

GLX vs Lower Trims

The GLX trim elevates the Hilux from a basic work tool to a more comfortable daily driver, adding features like power windows, remote central locking, and upgraded interior fabric. Unlike the base GL models, this GLX includes a more refined dashboard finish and body-colored bumpers, making it more suitable for personal use. Crucially, this 4WD version features the electronic transfer switch rather than the old-school manual lever found in older or lower-tier utility specs.

Hilux vs Segment Rivals

The Hilux leads its segment in the GCC primarily due to its unmatched parts availability and the sheer density of Toyota’s service network across the UAE, Oman, and Saudi Arabia. While rivals like the Mitsubishi L200 or Nissan Navara offer competitive utility, the Hilux consistently commands higher resale prices and offers a more robust 80-litre fuel tank for long-distance desert travel. Its simple 2.7L engine is widely considered the most durable powertrain in its class for high-heat environments.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for the 2.7L petrol engine typically sits around 10.9 L/100km, which is efficient for a body-on-frame 4x4. The Hilux is famous for having the slowest depreciation rate in the GCC pickup market, often retaining over 60% of its value even after five years. Service intervals are a standard 10,000 km, and with Al Futtaim or Abdullah Abdulghani centers across the region, maintenance is both affordable and convenient.

Performance & Capability

The 164 hp 2.7L engine is tuned for torque and longevity rather than raw speed, providing reliable power for highway overtaking and heavy loads. Equipped with a genuine low-range transfer case, this Hilux is fully capable of navigating soft sand and steep dunes, a key requirement for GCC owners. The 4WD system is easily engaged via a rotary dial, allowing for instant transitions between fuel-efficient rear-wheel drive and high-traction four-wheel drive.

Comfort & Cabin

The double-cab layout offers genuine five-seat capacity with adequate legroom for family trips or crew transport. The air conditioning system is specifically engineered for the Gulf, capable of cooling the cabin rapidly even in 45°C+ temperatures. The interior is designed for durability, featuring hard-wearing plastics and robust upholstery that resists the wear and tear of sand and sun exposure common in the region.

Safety

Standard safety equipment on this trim includes front airbags, an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), and Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD). It also features Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) and Hill-start Assist Control (HAC), which are vital for maintaining control on slippery boat ramps or loose gravel tracks. The Tire Pressure Warning System comes standard, providing essential monitoring during long highway stretches between emirates.

The bottom line

This is a rare opportunity to own a low-mileage, GCC-spec Hilux that has avoided the high-use cycles typical of the region. It is the ideal purchase for a buyer who values long-term resale security and legendary Toyota durability.
