Toyota Land Cruiser GXR V6 Upgrade 2025

Highlights

• Full-time 4WD with low-range transfer case
• 138-litre dual fuel tank system
• Extensive GCC authorised service network

Summary

This 2018 Toyota Land Cruiser GXR is a definitive choice for GCC buyers who require a balance of legendary durability and everyday utility. With 148,000 km, the mileage is well within the expected range for a six-year-old vehicle in this region, where long-distance highway commutes are the norm. The 4.0L V6 engine is widely regarded for its reliability and parts availability, making it a lower-maintenance alternative to the larger V8 variants. Finished in white, the car holds the highest resale demand in the local market while reflecting the intense summer heat effectively. For the serious GCC owner, the massive dual fuel tank and body-on-frame construction ensure it remains ready for both city school runs and weekend desert expeditions.

This Car vs Other 2018 Land Cruisers

At 148,000 km, this vehicle has averaged roughly 24,000 km per year, which aligns perfectly with the GCC average for large SUVs used for inter-emirate travel. The white exterior is the most sought-after color in the used market, ensuring faster resale and better value retention than darker shades. Choosing the V6 model over the V8 provides a lighter front end and improved fuel efficiency for daily urban driving.

GXR vs Lower Trims

The GXR trim provides essential upgrades over the base EXR, most notably adding a power sunroof and larger 18-inch alloy wheels that improve the vehicle's road presence. Inside, the GXR often includes enhanced infotainment options and wood-grain interior accents that elevate the cabin's feel compared to the more utility-focused lower trims. It strikes the perfect middle ground by offering premium comfort without the complex hydraulic suspension systems found in higher-tier models.

Land Cruiser vs Segment Rivals

Against the Nissan Patrol, the Land Cruiser leads in long-term reliability and the sheer density of its service network across the entire GCC, from major cities to remote areas. Its 138-litre fuel capacity significantly outranges the Mitsubishi Montero Sport, making it a superior companion for long desert hauls or cross-border trips. While rivals may offer more tech, the Land Cruiser’s mechanical simplicity ensures it remains the most trusted vehicle for extreme heat and sand conditions.

Running Costs & Resale

The 4.0L V6 typically consumes between 12.9L and 13.4L per 100km, making it one of the more economical ways to own a full-sized Land Cruiser. Service intervals are standardized at 5,000 km or 10,000 km depending on oil choice, with authorized centers available in almost every major town across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Oman. Historically, the Land Cruiser has the lowest depreciation rate in the GCC SUV segment, often retaining a significant portion of its value even after a decade of use.

Performance & Capability

The 271 hp V6 engine is paired with a robust 6-speed automatic transmission and a permanent all-wheel-drive system. It features a genuine low-range transfer case and a locking centre differential, allowing it to navigate soft sand dunes that would stop most modern crossovers. With a high ground clearance and a 3,300 kg gross weight capacity, it is purpose-built for the heavy-duty requirements of the Gulf terrain.

Comfort & Cabin

Configured as an 8-seater, the cabin is designed for large families with a powerful multi-zone air conditioning system that is specifically engineered to combat 50°C summer temperatures. The interior features a cool box in the centre console to keep drinks chilled during long drives, a staple for GCC road trips. Noise insulation is excellent, providing a quiet environment even when cruising at 140 km/h on the highway.

Safety

Standard safety features on this trim include Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Brake Assist (BA), and Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD). It is equipped with front and side airbags, along with Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) and Traction Control (TRC) to maintain composure on both slippery tarmac and loose gravel surfaces. The heavy-duty chassis provides an inherently high level of passive protection for all eight occupants.

The bottom line

This Land Cruiser is the ideal opportunity for a family or adventurer looking for a GCC-spec icon that combines manageable running costs with unbeatable resale security.
