Summary

This 2016 Land Cruiser VXR is a definitive choice for GCC buyers seeking the ultimate balance of legendary durability and flagship luxury. With a white exterior—the most sought-after color for heat reflection and resale value in the region—it offers an elite ownership proposition. At 179,000 km, this 10-year-old vehicle sits comfortably within the expected mileage for a car this age in the UAE market, reflecting its capability as a long-distance highway cruiser. As the top-tier 5.7L V8 trim, it provides significant power advantages for desert driving and towing that smaller engine variants cannot match. Bulletproof reliability and a massive authorized service network across all seven Emirates make this a safe long-term investment.

This Car vs Other 2016 Land Cruisers

While many 2016 models in the UAE have surpassed the 200,000 km mark due to frequent Abu Dhabi-Dubai commutes, this example remains well within the typical mileage range for a 10-year-old Land Cruiser. The white exterior provides a distinct advantage at resale, as it is the most preferred color in the GCC for managing high summer temperatures. Being a GCC-spec vehicle, it includes the essential heavy-duty cooling systems required for local operations, unlike US or Japanese imports.

VXR vs Lower Trims

The VXR trim represents a major luxury upgrade over the GXR, featuring a premium 14-speaker JBL audio system and a larger 9-inch touchscreen with integrated navigation. Practical GCC-specific comforts such as four-zone automatic climate control and ventilated front seats are standard here, ensuring cabin comfort during extreme heat. Safety and tech are also significantly enhanced with the inclusion of a 360-degree camera system and adaptive cruise control, features often missing on lower-tier specifications.

Land Cruiser vs Segment Rivals

Against the Nissan Patrol, the Land Cruiser leads in overall value retention and the sheer density of its authorized service network across the GCC. Its 138-litre fuel tank is specifically engineered for long-distance desert traverses, providing superior range compared to smaller-tanked rivals like the Chevrolet Tahoe. The VXR's body-on-frame construction and advanced Crawl Control hardware offer a level of off-road durability that monocoque competitors cannot replicate.

Running Costs & Resale

The 5.7L V8 is a robust powertrain designed for the long haul, with real-world fuel consumption averaging approximately 15.7 L/100km in mixed GCC conditions. Maintenance is straightforward thanks to excellent parts availability and service centers located in every major GCC city, including Riyadh, Kuwait City, and Muscat. Historically, the Land Cruiser V8 holds the highest residual value in its segment, typically retaining more of its original price after a decade than any European or American rival.

Performance & Capability

Powered by a 362 hp 5.7L V8, this Land Cruiser delivers 530 Nm of torque, enabling a 0-100 km/h time of approximately 7 seconds—a remarkable figure for a vehicle of this scale. The 8-speed automatic transmission, introduced for this model year, ensures smooth power delivery during highway overtaking and improved efficiency on long desert drives. Off-road performance is anchored by a locking center differential and Multi-Terrain Select, allowing the driver to tailor the traction system for sand, rocks, or mud.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is a true 8-seater environment with premium leather upholstery and a dedicated rear entertainment system featuring dual screens for back-seat passengers. A factory-fitted cool box in the center console is a standard VXR feature that proves invaluable for keeping beverages cold during GCC summer road trips. Advanced acoustic glass and high-grade insulation ensure the interior remains quiet and isolated from both road noise and outside heat.

Safety

This VXR trim comes equipped with the comprehensive Toyota Safety Sense suite, including pre-collision braking, lane departure alert, and adaptive radar cruise control for effortless highway driving. It also features a blind-spot monitoring system and rear cross-traffic alert, which are essential for navigating multi-lane traffic in cities like Dubai and Riyadh. A total of 10 airbags and a 360-degree camera system provide complete peace of mind for family transport.

The bottom line

This GCC-spec VXR is the perfect opportunity for a family or off-road enthusiast who demands the peak of Toyota luxury without sacrificing the model's legendary go-anywhere capability.
