Summary

This 2020 Mitsubishi Pajero GLS HIGHLINE is a remarkable find in the GCC market, combining the legendary reliability of a Japanese-built 4x4 with the highest equipment level available for its year. With mileage that sits comfortably within the average range for a four-year-old vehicle in the region, it has clearly been well-maintained and is ready for another decade of service. The Black exterior is one of the most sought-after colors in the UAE and wider Gulf, ensuring it maintains a commanding presence while maximizing future resale value. Unlike many modern crossovers, this is a true body-on-frame SUV that bridges the gap between a daily family commuter and a weekend desert explorer. Choosing the GLS HIGHLINE trim means you are getting the 3.8L engine and a suite of premium features that are often missing from the base models. For a buyer in the GCC, the most important consideration is the peace of mind that comes with Mitsubishi's extensive service network and the proven cooling capacity of their air conditioning systems.

This Car vs Other 2020 Pajeros

When looking at the 2020 model year, this specific unit stands out due to its balanced mileage of 98,288 km. In the GCC, where annual averages frequently reach 25,000 km, this vehicle has been used exactly as intended—primarily on highways where engine wear is significantly lower than in urban stop-start conditions. The Black paint remains a top-tier choice for resale in Dubai and Riyadh, consistently outperforming niche colors in the used market. Being a GCC-spec vehicle, it avoids the common pitfalls of imported North American or European models, such as radiator sizing issues or incompatible infotainment systems. This car represents the final evolution of a legendary platform, meaning all mechanical refinements were perfected by the time this 2020 unit left the factory. It offers a level of mechanical maturity that newer, more complex SUVs struggle to match.

GLS HIGHLINE vs Lower Trims

The GLS HIGHLINE is the definitive choice for those who want the full Mitsubishi experience without compromise. While lower trims often settle for a 3.0L engine, this version features the more robust 3.8L V6, providing the necessary torque for sand driving and easier overtaking on fast-moving UAE highways. Inside, the HIGHLINE trim replaces basic cloth with premium upholstery and adds the wood-grain trim accents that give the cabin a more executive feel. You also benefit from the Gold Emblem package and chrome detailing that are hallmarks of the top-spec Pajero. Perhaps most importantly for the local climate, the HIGHLINE includes the high-performance dual-zone climate control system with dedicated rear cooling controls, ensuring all seven passengers stay comfortable in 45°C heat. It also includes the premium Rockford Acoustic Design sound system, which is a significant upgrade over the standard four-speaker setup found in base GLX trims.

Pajero vs Segment Rivals

The Mitsubishi Pajero remains a favorite in the GCC against rivals like the Toyota Prado or the Nissan Pathfinder because of its unique Super Select II 4WD system. While many competitors have moved to electronic AWD systems, the Pajero allows the driver to switch between 2WD for fuel efficiency and multiple 4WD modes on the fly at speeds up to 100 km/h. It offers a larger fuel tank than many in its class, which is a massive advantage for long-distance desert crossings or trips from Dubai to Muscat. The Pajero's monocoque body with a built-in ladder frame provides a lower center of gravity than a traditional truck-based SUV, leading to better handling on paved roads without sacrificing off-road durability. Furthermore, the sheer abundance of spare parts across every corner of the GCC makes it a much more practical long-term ownership proposition than many European or American rivals in the same price bracket.

Running Costs & Resale

Operating a 3.8L Pajero in the GCC is remarkably predictable. Real-world fuel consumption typically averages around 13.5L per 100km, which is efficient for a large-displacement V6 when cruising at highway speeds of 120-140 km/h. Mitsubishi's service intervals are standard every 10,000 km, and the costs are among the lowest in the SUV segment due to the simplicity of the engine design. Authorized service centers are available in every major city from Abu Dhabi to Kuwait City, ensuring that professional maintenance is never far away. Historically, the Pajero has one of the lowest depreciation rates in the region, typically losing only 8-10% of its value annually compared to the 15-20% seen in luxury European brands. At the three-year mark, a well-kept GLS HIGHLINE remains a highly liquid asset in the used market, often selling within days of being listed.

Performance & Capability

The heart of this vehicle is the 3.8L V6 engine, which provides a smooth and linear power delivery that is perfectly suited to the sandy terrain of the Emirates. With a genuine low-range transfer case and a locking rear differential, it is one of the few modern SUVs that can genuinely tackle deep dunes right out of the showroom. It features a ground clearance of approximately 235 mm, allowing it to navigate rocky wadis and high curbs with ease. On the highway, the four-wheel independent suspension—a rarity in this rugged segment—ensures a planted feel during high-speed cruising and cornering. Whether you are towing a jet ski to the coast or navigating a weekend camping trip in the Liwa desert, the Pajero provides a mechanical confidence that electronic-heavy crossovers simply cannot replicate. The 0-100 km/h sprint is handled with surprising agility for a vehicle of this size, making it a versatile performer in city traffic.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is designed with the GCC family in mind, featuring a versatile 7-seat layout where the third row can be completely stowed into the floor to create a massive flat loading area. The GLS HIGHLINE trim ensures that the interior is a sanctuary from the harsh outside environment, featuring powerful air conditioning vents for every row of passengers. The driver enjoys an elevated seating position with excellent 360-degree visibility, which is a major safety plus on busy multi-lane roads. Natural light floods the cabin through the large panoramic sunroof, which features high-quality tinting to reflect UV rays and minimize heat soak. Soft-touch materials on the dashboard and doors reduce cabin noise, creating a quiet environment for long drives across the desert. For the modern driver, the infotainment system provides all the necessary connectivity, while the cabin's insulation keeps the heat out and the cool air in, even during the peak of summer.

Safety

Safety in the GLS HIGHLINE is comprehensive, featuring an array of active and passive systems designed to protect the whole family. It comes standard with Multi-mode ABS and Electronic Brakeforce Distribution, which are essential for maintaining control on slippery sand or during sudden stops on the highway. The Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution (RISE) body construction uses high-tensile strength steel to create a rigid cabin shell in the event of a collision. This trim is equipped with six airbags, including side and curtain airbags that protect all three rows. Active Stability and Traction Control (ASTC) work constantly in the background to prevent skidding on gravel or during emergency maneuvers. For parents, the inclusion of ISOFIX child seat anchors and rear parking sensors makes the Pajero a practical and safe choice for the daily school run or family road trips.

The bottom line

This Pajero is the perfect match for a family or adventurer looking for a high-spec, GCC-standard 4x4 that won't lose its value. With the 3.8L engine and the GLS HIGHLINE features, it is a rare opportunity to own the ultimate version of a legendary SUV that is becoming harder to find in such clean condition.
