Summary

This GCC-spec 2021 S500 L 4MATIC represents the first year of the revolutionary W223 generation, offering a massive leap in digital technology over its predecessor. Finished in black, the most sought-after color for executive resale in the UAE, this long-wheelbase sedan has covered 109,177 km—a typical figure for a chauffeur-driven vehicle navigating high-speed GCC highways. With all-wheel drive and a potent mild-hybrid powertrain, it balances refined performance with the stability needed for cross-emirate travel. For the serious buyer, this listing offers a chance to own the benchmark of luxury at a fraction of its original price while benefiting from the extensive Mercedes-Benz service infrastructure across the region.

This Car vs Other 2021 S500 Ls

At roughly 109,000 km, this vehicle sits at an average mileage for a three-year-old executive sedan in the GCC, where annual commutes between cities like Dubai and Abu Dhabi often reach 30,000 km. The black exterior is a significant advantage, as it remains the highest-demand color in the local used market, ensuring faster resale and better value retention than rarer hues. Choosing a GCC-spec model over imported US or European units ensures the cooling systems and air conditioning are calibrated for 50°C summer peaks.

4MATIC vs Lower Trims

The S500 4MATIC adds a significant power bump over the S450, utilizing an electric auxiliary compressor to eliminate turbo lag instantly. This trim specifically includes the 48V EQ Boost system as standard, providing smoother stop-start transitions in heavy traffic and an extra burst of torque for highway overtaking. Inside, you benefit from the higher-tier Burmester 3D Surround Sound system and the larger 12.8-inch OLED central display that defines the modern S-Class experience.

S500 L vs Segment Rivals

While the BMW 7 Series focuses on driver engagement and the Audi A8 on understated tech, the S500 L leads the segment in rear-cabin refinement and cabin isolation. Its 550-litre boot is notably more accommodating for airport runs than the Lexus LS, and its MBUX infotainment system offers superior voice recognition tailored for regional accents. The long-wheelbase configuration provides significantly more rear legroom than standard European luxury competitors, making it the preferred choice for those who value passenger comfort.

Running Costs & Resale

The W223 generation delivers a real-world combined fuel consumption of approximately 10.0 L/100km, making it surprisingly efficient for a full-sized sedan during long-distance GCC cruising. Maintenance follows the Mercedes-Benz 'Service A' and 'Service B' schedule every 15,000 km or 12 months, with a vast network of authorized centers from Muscat to Kuwait City. While luxury sedans face steep initial depreciation, the S500 L stabilizes well after the three-year mark, supported by a strong secondary market of executive transport firms.

Performance & Capability

Accelerating from 0–100 km/h in just 4.9 seconds, this heavy sedan moves with the urgency of a sports car thanks to the 435 hp inline-six engine. The 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system provides essential traction during rare but heavy regional rainstorms and on gravel-strewn surfaces. Five selectable drive modes allow you to transition from the cloud-like comfort of 'Comfort' mode to a sharper, more responsive setup for the open highway.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is a sanctuary from the GCC heat, featuring a multi-zone climate control system with a dedicated fragrance atomizer to keep the interior fresh. Ventilated and massaging seats are standard in this trim, ensuring comfort during long drives across the desert. The long-wheelbase format ensures that even with the front seats pushed back, rear passengers enjoy an expansive lounge-like environment, further enhanced by power-operated sunshades for all rear windows.

Safety

The 2021 S-Class introduced the world's first rear-seat airbags, providing unprecedented protection for all occupants. This model features a full ADAS suite including Pre-Safe Impulse Side, which raises the car body via the air suspension if a side collision is imminent to redirect forces through the strongest parts of the frame. Standard 360° cameras and active parking assist make navigating tight parking structures in major GCC malls effortless.

The bottom line

This S500 L is the ideal choice for a professional who requires a high-status, GCC-compliant executive sedan that has already absorbed its steepest depreciation. It offers the perfect balance of modern tech and traditional Mercedes-Benz comfort for the region's unique driving demands.
