Toyota Land Cruiser VXR GRANDTOURING

Highlights

• 362 hp from a 5.7L V8 engine
• Low-range transfer case with locking differentials
• Extensive GCC authorised service network

Summary

This 2021 Toyota Land Cruiser VXR represents the final and most refined year of the legendary 200-series, making it a highly coveted choice for GCC buyers. With 66,000 km, its mileage is significantly below the regional average for a four-year-old SUV, suggesting it has been spared the typical heavy highway commute. The white exterior is the gold standard for resale in the Middle East, ensuring the strongest possible value retention and easier cooling during peak summer. As a VXR, it bridges the gap between rugged off-road utility and executive comfort, offering a V8 soundtrack that has now been discontinued in newer models. For the local buyer, this is the ultimate peace-of-mind purchase, combining unmatched reliability with a prestige that remains a status symbol across the Emirates.

This Car vs Other 2021 Land Cruisers

While many 2021 models in the GCC have already crossed the 100,000 km mark due to inter-emirate travel, this example shows just 66,000 km, placing it in the lower-use tier of the market. Its white paint is not just a stylistic choice but a strategic one, as it typically commands a premium at resale compared to darker tones. Being a GCC-spec vehicle, it avoids the insurance and parts-compatibility hurdles often found with imported North American or European units.

VXR vs Lower Trims

The VXR trim is a significant step up from the GXR, adding essential GCC luxuries like ventilated front seats and a more sophisticated 4-zone climate control system for rear passengers. Unlike the base trims, the VXR features the full-time 4WD system paired with the high-output 5.7L V8, whereas lower versions often carry the 4.0L V6 or 4.6L V8. It also includes premium leather upholstery and an upgraded infotainment suite that makes long desert drives feel like executive travel.

Land Cruiser vs Segment Rivals

Compared to the Nissan Patrol, the Land Cruiser 200-series is widely regarded for having superior long-term reliability and a more robust body-on-frame feel. While European rivals like the Range Rover offer more digital tech, the Toyota leads in every practical metric that matters in the desert: cooling efficiency, parts availability, and a 138-litre dual-tank system that provides exceptional range for cross-border trips. Its resale value in the UAE market remains significantly higher than any American or European competitor in the same segment.

Running Costs & Resale

Ownership costs are defined by the legendary durability of the 5.7L V8, which requires standard 10,000 km service intervals easily handled by any Toyota center across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, or Oman. Real-world fuel consumption typically averages 15.7 L/100 km in mixed GCC driving, which is offset by the vehicle's remarkably low depreciation rate. Historically, a Land Cruiser of this vintage retains approximately 70-75% of its value after three years, outperforming almost every other SUV in the region.

Performance & Capability

The 362 hp V8 engine provides effortless torque for overtaking on fast-moving highways like the E11 and maintains composure under high heat. Equipped with a genuine low-range transfer case and Crawl Control, this SUV is as capable in the deep sands of Liwa as it is on the tarmac. The 5.7L displacement is specifically tuned for regional fuels, delivering smooth power delivery through its 8-speed automatic transmission even when towing heavy loads or navigating steep dunes.

Comfort & Cabin

The 8-seat cabin is designed for large families, featuring a powerful air conditioning system that is arguably the best in its class for extreme summer temperatures. Premium leather seats with integrated ventilation ensure the driver stays cool, while the quiet acoustic glass isolates the interior from desert wind noise at high speeds. The center console refrigerator is a standard VXR highlight, providing chilled beverages for long road trips through the interior regions.

Safety

This VXR comes equipped with a comprehensive safety suite including multiple airbags, Blind Spot Monitoring, and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, which are vital for safety on busy multi-lane UAE roads. Stability control and Active Traction Control (A-TRAC) provide essential grip on loose gravel and sand surfaces, while the 360-degree camera system makes maneuvering this large SUV in tight city parking structures effortless.

The bottom line

This is a rare opportunity to own a low-mileage, GCC-spec 5.7L V8 Land Cruiser in the region’s best resale color—a perfect buy for the enthusiast who values the proven reliability of the 200-series over the newer turbo-V6 models.
