Summary

This 2022 BJ40 Champion is a standout off-roader for the GCC market, offering exceptional value with mileage under 10,000 km—a rare find compared to the typical 25,000 km annual average for SUVs in the region. The vibrant Red exterior is a bold choice that maintains a distinct presence in a market often dominated by white and silver, while the Champion trim ensures you have the most capable mechanical setup available. Built with military-heritage DNA and a robust body-on-frame chassis, this diesel-powered 4x4 is specifically engineered to handle both long highway stretches and demanding desert weekends. For the buyer who wants Jeep-like capability and styling without the high brand premium, this low-mileage Champion is one of the strongest opportunities currently available in the UAE.

This Car vs Other 2022 BJ40s

At just 9,871 km, this BJ40 has covered less than half the distance of a typical one-year-old vehicle in the GCC, despite being from the 2022 model year. While most used BJ40s on the market have already seen extensive desert duty or heavy commuting between Emirates, this specific unit remains in near-showroom condition. Its diesel powertrain and low mileage make it a highly efficient long-term investment compared to higher-mileage petrol alternatives.

CHAMPION vs Lower Trims

The Champion trim is the mechanical peak of the BJ40 lineup, adding a rear differential lock that is often missing from the Premium or Flagship trims. It also standardizes the 17-inch alloy wheels and reinforced off-road geometry needed for serious trail work. Inside, you benefit from the full digital cockpit and upgraded leather seating, providing a level of tech-forward comfort that lower trims lack.

BJ40 vs Segment Rivals

The BJ40 Champion competes directly with the Jeep Wrangler and Toyota FJ Cruiser by offering a similar body-on-frame, removable-roof configuration at a more accessible price point. While rivals are often petrol-only, the BJ40's diesel engine provides superior low-end torque for sand recovery and better highway range. It also features a 750 mm wading depth, matching or exceeding the water-crossing capabilities of many established competitors.

Running Costs & Resale

The 2.0L diesel engine offers excellent fuel economy for an SUV, averaging approximately 8.5 to 10 L/100km depending on GCC highway or city conditions. BAIC has established a growing authorized service network across the UAE and Saudi Arabia, ensuring parts availability and standard maintenance are easily managed. While European rivals depreciate faster, the BJ40 maintains steady value in the GCC due to its rugged mechanical simplicity and popularity among weekend explorers.

Performance & Capability

With a 220 mm ground clearance and a selectable part-time 4WD system, this vehicle is purpose-built for the UAE's dunes and rocky wadis. The 200 hp diesel engine produces significant low-range torque, allowing it to crawl through soft sand where lighter crossovers might struggle. It features a 37-degree approach angle and a 31-degree departure angle, ensuring you can navigate steep obstacles without body damage.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is surprisingly refined for a rugged 4x4, featuring a 10-inch digital display and dual-zone climate control with dedicated rear vents to combat the GCC summer heat. The five-seat layout offers ample legroom and a flat-folding rear row for camping gear or desert equipment. Additionally, the acoustic insulation is designed to keep the cabin quiet during long 120 km/h highway cruises between Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

Safety

Safety is managed by a high-strength steel roll cage integrated into the body-on-frame design, providing superior protection during off-road excursions. Standard safety features on the Champion trim include dual front airbags, Electronic Stability Program (ESP), Hill Start Assist, and a tire pressure monitoring system which is essential for safely returning to highway pressures after deflating for the sand.

The bottom line

This is the perfect choice for an adventure-seeker looking for a near-new, top-trim 4x4 that handles the desert as well as the daily commute at a fraction of a Wrangler's cost.
