Summary

This 2022 BAIC BJ40 PLUS Champion is a standout opportunity for GCC buyers, combining remarkably low mileage for its age with the top-tier Champion trim. As the highest specification available, it offers premium features and specialized off-road hardware that set it apart from its rivals. Its bold Red exterior is a high-visibility, sought-after choice for off-road enthusiasts in the region, ensuring strong presence on both the dunes and the highway. For anyone seeking a trail-ready SUV that has barely been driven, this GCC-spec vehicle offers a compelling balance of modern tech and rugged durability. The diesel powertrain is a rare find in this segment, providing the high-torque efficiency needed for long-distance desert expeditions.

This Car vs Other 2022 BJ40 PLUSs

With just 9,871 km on the odometer, this vehicle has been driven significantly less than the average 20,000 km typically seen annually in the GCC market. Its Red exterior is a popular choice for this model, holding its appeal well for resale among off-road enthusiasts. Finding a first-owner-condition example with such low mileage provides a mechanical advantage rarely seen in the 2022 model year.

CHAMPION vs Lower Trims

The Champion trim is the peak of the BJ40 PLUS lineup, adding critical off-road hardware like a rear axle differential lock and matte blackened 17-inch alloy wheels. Inside, it upgrades the experience with ambient lighting, a digital instrument cluster, and a built-in DVR system that is absent in the Premium or Flagship versions. These additions make it the preferred choice for serious GCC buyers who value both technical capability and cabin technology.

BJ40 PLUS vs Segment Rivals

While rivals like the Jeep Wrangler or Tank 300 often come with higher price tags, the BJ40 PLUS leads with its standard body-on-frame construction and removable roof panels at a more accessible price point. Its 75-liter fuel tank is specifically suited for the long-distance highway hauls common between UAE emirates or across the Saudi border. The inclusion of a 360-degree camera and rear diff-lock as standard gives it a features-to-value lead in the rugged SUV segment.

Running Costs & Resale

The 2.0L diesel engine provides excellent low-end torque while maintaining superior fuel efficiency compared to petrol V6 rivals, making it ideal for the stop-start traffic of Dubai or Riyadh. BAIC has established a strong presence in the GCC through authorized partners like Petromin, ensuring that parts and expert servicing are readily available across the region. While Chinese SUVs typically see higher initial depreciation, the Champion trim with ultra-low mileage like this example tends to stabilize and retain value better due to its high demand on the secondary market.

Performance & Capability

Built for the dunes, the BJ40 PLUS features a 37-degree approach angle and a 31-degree departure angle, allowing it to navigate steep terrain that would stop most crossovers. The four-wheel-drive system includes a selectable low-range transfer case, providing the crawl ratio necessary for heavy sand or rocky mountain paths in the Northern Emirates. On the highway, the 200 hp turbocharged engine ensures smooth overtaking and comfortable cruising at regional speed limits.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is designed for the extreme GCC climate, featuring a high-output air conditioning system with dedicated rear vents to keep all five passengers cool. Premium leather seats with power adjustment and a 12.3-inch digital cockpit create a modern environment that belies the car's rugged exterior. The removable hardtop allows for open-air driving during the cooler winter months, a favorite feature for weekend trips to Jebel Jais or the Liwa desert.

Safety

Safety is prioritized with a high-strength steel cage and a suite of active systems including Electronic Stability Program (ESP), Traction Control (TCS), and Hill Descent Control (HDC). The Champion trim also includes a 360-degree camera and tire pressure monitoring, providing essential visibility and data when navigating tight urban parking or lowering tire pressures for desert driving. Dual front airbags and ISOFIX child seat anchors ensure family safety is never compromised.

The bottom line

This is the ideal choice for a GCC buyer who wants a showroom-quality off-roader with the highest possible spec and the added efficiency of a diesel engine. Its exceptionally low mileage makes it the best BJ40 PLUS currently available on the market.
