Summary

This 4-year-old Santa Fe SEL offers a balanced ownership case for the GCC market, featuring a respectable mileage of 100,000 km that aligns perfectly with the region's higher annual driving averages. The black exterior remains one of the most liquid colors for resale in the Emirates, ensuring strong demand when it is time to upgrade. As an SEL trim, it provides a significantly elevated cabin experience compared to the base SE, making it a competitive alternative to rivals like the Toyota RAV4 and Honda CR-V. With its 2.5-liter powertrain and smooth automatic transmission, this SUV is ideally suited for long highway commutes between cities and reliable family duties in summer heat.

This Car vs Other 2022 Santa Fes

With 100,000 km on the odometer, this vehicle has averaged 25,000 km per year, which is standard for a commuter SUV in the GCC where highway distances are vast. The black exterior is a high-demand choice in the local used market, typically retaining value better than niche colors. While many 2022 models in the UAE are lower trim levels, this SEL specification offers the preferred balance of tech and comfort features for the model year.

SEL vs Lower Trims

The SEL trim is the sweet spot of the 2022 lineup, adding essential GCC comforts that the base SE lacks, including heated front seats and an 8-way power-adjustable driver seat. It introduces a wireless device charging pad and proximity key with push-button start, features that significantly improve daily convenience in high-traffic city environments. Furthermore, the SEL includes Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist as standard, providing a critical safety layer for fast-moving multi-lane highways.

Santa Fe vs Segment Rivals

The Santa Fe leads segment rivals like the Toyota RAV4 and Mazda CX-5 in terms of raw interior volume and passenger shoulder room, offering a more 'American-sized' cabin feel that suits larger families. Its 67-liter fuel tank is larger than many competitors, providing a superior cruising range for cross-border trips or long desert highway stretches. While rivals often prioritize compact footprints, the Santa Fe emphasizes highway stability and road presence.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel efficiency for the 2.5L engine sits at approximately 9.1 L/100km combined, making it economical for a mid-size SUV in stop-start traffic. Hyundai enjoys an extensive authorized service network across the UAE and wider GCC, ensuring that parts like filters and brake pads are readily available and competitively priced. The Santa Fe historically retains roughly 70% of its value after three years in the GCC, performing well against European counterparts though slightly behind the legendary retention of Japanese brands.

Performance & Capability

The 180 hp 2.5-liter engine delivers reliable power for highway overtaking and maintains comfortable cruising speeds even when fully loaded with passengers. It features a braked towing capacity of 907 kg (2,000 lbs), sufficient for light trailers or jet ski carriers often used during UAE weekends. The front-wheel-drive configuration paired with selectable drive modes ensures predictable handling on tarmac and graded gravel tracks alike.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is designed for long-distance comfort, featuring high-quality insulation that keeps the interior quiet and cool against the desert heat. Rear passengers benefit from dedicated air conditioning vents, a necessity for the GCC summer, and the SEL's stain-resistant upholstery is built to withstand family use. The 8-inch infotainment system supports seamless smartphone integration, while the acoustic-laminated windshield helps reduce wind noise during high-speed highway travel.

Safety

Safety is a primary strength of the 2022 SEL, which earned a five-star rating from the NHTSA. Standard equipment includes Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist with Pedestrian Detection, Lane Keeping Assist, and Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist. These systems are particularly effective on busy urban roads like Sheikh Zayed Road, helping to mitigate risks during lane changes and reversing in crowded parking areas.

The bottom line

For the GCC buyer seeking a modern, safe, and fuel-efficient family SUV with a premium cabin feel, this black SEL trim represents an excellent value-for-money opportunity in today's market.
