• 476 hp from a handcrafted 4.0L twin-turbo V8
• Burmester surround-sound audio system standard

Summary

This 2022 SL55 AMG 4MATIC+ represents a rare opportunity to own the first generation of SL developed entirely by AMG, now returning to its 2+2 roadster roots. With only 15,000 km, this vehicle is well below the average GCC annual mileage of 20,000 km, making it a prime selection for collectors and driving enthusiasts alike. The Grey exterior is a high-demand, high-resale choice in the UAE market, perfectly complementing the sharp, modern lines of the R232 chassis. As a GCC-spec model, it features the necessary cooling and filtration systems designed for extreme local temperatures, ensuring peak performance during the long highway drives between Emirates. This is a significantly more desirable entry point than the four-cylinder SL43, offering the authentic V8 soundtrack and all-wheel-drive stability that local buyers prioritize.

This Car vs Other 2022 SL55 AMGs

With just 15,000 km on the odometer, this example is significantly fresher than the 40,000–50,000 km typically seen on two-year-old high-performance cars in the region. The Grey finish is one of the top three resale colors in the GCC, ensuring it holds its value better than more niche launch colors. Being a GCC-spec vehicle, it retains its full warranty and service eligibility at authorized Mercedes-Benz centers across the UAE and wider Middle East.

4MATIC+ vs Lower Trims

The SL55 4MATIC+ provides a substantial performance leap over the entry-level SL43, replacing the four-cylinder unit with a handcrafted 4.0L V8 and adding standard all-wheel drive for superior traction. It also introduces rear-axle steering as standard, which greatly improves maneuverability in tight city parking and stability during high-speed highway lane changes. Inside, the 55 trim benefits from higher-grade Nappa leather and the premium Burmester audio system that is often an expensive option on lower models.

SL55 AMG vs Segment Rivals

Compared to the BMW M8 Convertible and the Porsche 911 Carrera 4S Cabriolet, the SL55 offers a more balanced grand-touring experience with its standard AIRSCARF neck-level heating and sophisticated MBUX infotainment. Its 4MATIC+ system is highly variable, providing a more planted feel on sandy or dusty road surfaces compared to rear-wheel-drive competitors. Additionally, the SL's 2+2 seating configuration offers more practical interior storage space than the strictly two-seat Jaguar F-TYPE R.

Running Costs & Resale

The 4.0L V8 delivers roughly 12.5L/100km on the highway, though GCC city traffic will see this figure rise significantly. Service intervals are typically set at 15,000 km or 12 months, and Mercedes-Benz maintains an extensive authorized service network across every major city in the GCC. The SL55 AMG historically shows strong value retention in the UAE, typically depreciating at a slower rate than its non-AMG predecessors due to its unique development by the performance division.

Performance & Capability

The SL55 rockets from 0-100 km/h in just 3.9 seconds, reaching a verified top speed of 295 km/h. The 4MATIC+ all-wheel-drive system and standard rear-axle steering work in tandem to make the car feel much smaller and more agile than its dimensions suggest. Five AMG DYNAMIC SELECT drive modes allow you to transition from a comfortable cruiser for the E11 highway to a sharpened sports car ready for the curves of Jebel Jais.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is centered around an 11.9-inch MBUX touchscreen that can tilt electronically to avoid glare when the top is down—a vital feature under the intense GCC sun. Standard ventilated seats and a powerful multi-zone climate control system ensure the cockpit remains cool even during the summer months. The insulated fabric soft top is designed to reflect heat and can be operated at speeds up to 60 km/h, taking only 15 seconds to stow.

Safety

Safety is managed by a comprehensive suite including Active Brake Assist, Blind Spot Assist, and a 360° camera system that makes parking this wide roadster effortless. The new aluminum spaceframe construction provides exceptional rigidity and rollover protection. For long desert highway drives, the standard Adaptive Cruise Control and Lane Keeping Assist significantly reduce driver fatigue.

The bottom line

This is the ideal choice for a buyer seeking the pinnacle of German open-top motoring with the security of GCC specifications and exceptionally low mileage.
