Summary

This 2022 Mercedes Benz SL63 AMG represents a peak opportunity for a performance enthusiast in the GCC looking for a near-new convertible without the initial depreciation hit of a brand-new showroom model. With only 18,000 km on the odometer, this vehicle has been driven significantly less than the typical 25,000 km annual average found in the UAE and wider region. The white exterior is the most sought-after color in the Middle East, ensuring maximum heat reflection during the summer months and the strongest possible resale value when it comes time to upgrade. While this is a European specification model, the sheer engineering quality of the modern M177 engine platform ensures it handles the high-speed highway demands of the Emirates with ease. This SL63 AMG stands out because it combines 805 hp performance with a 2+2 seating configuration, making it more practical than a dedicated two-seater supercar while maintaining elite status. The primary ownership consideration for a buyer in the GCC is the meticulous maintenance required for such a high-output hand-built engine, which is well-supported by numerous specialized European car service centers across the major cities of the GCC.

This Car vs Other 2022 SL63 AMGs

When comparing this specific SL63 AMG to other 2022 models currently available in the GCC market, the mileage is the standout factor. At just 18,000 km over two years, this car has seen light, curated use rather than the heavy daily commuting often seen on the E11 or E311 highways. Most 2022 luxury grand tourers in this region have already crossed the 40,000 km mark, making this a low-mileage gem that feels mechanically fresh. The white exterior finish provides a distinct advantage in the local market; not only is it the easiest color to maintain in dusty conditions, but it also retains the highest percentage of its value compared to bolder or matte finishes. As a European spec car, it may feature specific suspension tuning or interior trim options that were not standard on GCC-delivered units, offering a slightly more focused driving experience. Buyers should note that while it lacks a local agency service contract, the low mileage means the major mechanical components are still in their prime operating window.

STANDARD vs Lower Trims

Choosing the SL63 AMG over the 'lower' SL43 or SL55 variants is a decision driven by a desire for uncompromising power and prestige. While the SL43 utilizes a four-cylinder engine, this SL63 AMG houses the legendary 4.0L V8 Bi-Turbo, delivering a massive 805 hp that transforms the car into a true supercar contender. Beyond the engine, the SL63 AMG trim adds essential features for the GCC climate, such as the high-performance cooling system designed to manage the heat generated by its massive power output. Inside, the cabin is upgraded with premium materials and the top-tier Burmester surround sound system as standard, providing an acoustic experience that matches the roar of the exhaust. You also benefit from more aggressive AMG aerodynamics and larger braking systems which are crucial for safety when slowing down from high highway speeds. This trim also includes the active ride control suspension, which provides a level of cornering stability and comfort that the entry-level models simply cannot replicate.

SL63 AMG vs Segment Rivals

The Mercedes Benz SL63 AMG competes in a very elite circle, primarily facing off against the Porsche 911 Turbo S Cabriolet and the BMW M8 Convertible. While the Porsche is often seen as a clinical track tool, the SL63 AMG leads the segment in providing a more luxurious and grand-touring-oriented cabin that feels more special for daily driving in cities like Dubai or Riyadh. Compared to the BMW M8, the Mercedes offers a more prestigious hand-built engine pedigree and a more modern, screen-heavy interior featuring the latest MBUX technology. The SL63 AMG also boasts a more sophisticated convertible top mechanism that is engineered for excellent thermal insulation, keeping the cabin significantly cooler in 45°C+ temperatures than many of its rivals. Furthermore, the 805 hp output of this specific configuration places it in a different performance bracket entirely, outclassing almost everything in its class for sheer straight-line acceleration and overtaking capability on long desert roads.

Running Costs & Resale

Operating a high-performance 805 hp V8 in the GCC involves costs that reflect its elite status. Real-world fuel consumption for this model typically ranges from 12L to 16L per 100km, depending on how much time is spent in heavy city traffic versus cruising on the open highway between emirates. High-octane Super 98 fuel is mandatory to protect the advanced turbocharging system and maintain the advertised power levels. Service intervals for Mercedes-AMG models in the region are generally every 15,000 km or 12 months, with costs being higher than standard Mercedes models due to the specialized oils and high-performance parts required. Depreciation for European spec luxury cars in the UAE is typically around 15% annually, but the exceptionally low mileage on this unit will help it hold its value better than higher-mileage examples. There is a massive network of authorized Mercedes centers and high-end independent specialists throughout the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait, ensuring that parts availability and expert labor are never an issue.

Performance & Capability

The headline figure for this SL63 AMG is its staggering 805 hp, which allows it to rocket from 0-100 km/h in under 4 seconds, putting it firmly in the top tier of all vehicles on the road today. This power is managed by a sophisticated Automatic transmission and a Rear Wheel Drive layout that provides a classic sports car feel while maintaining incredible high-speed stability on the UAE's perfectly paved highways. The car features multiple drive modes that can transform it from a comfortable, quiet cruiser for the commute into a sharp, loud monster for weekend drives through the Hatta or Jebel Jais mountain roads. Even though it is a low-slung convertible, it features a front-axle lift system to help navigate the speed bumps commonly found in residential areas like Jumeirah or Al Barari. The rear-wheel-drive setup is particularly rewarding for enthusiasts, offering a level of steering purity that is often lost in all-wheel-drive competitors.

Comfort & Cabin

The interior of the SL63 AMG is a masterclass in combining high-tech digital interfaces with classic luxury. The 4-seat configuration is ideal for those who need occasional extra space for luggage or children, though it functions best as a spacious two-seater for long-distance journeys. For the GCC buyer, the most important features are the heavily bolstered AMG seats which come with heating, cooling, and the 'Airscarf' system that blows warm air around your neck, though the ventilated cooling is what you will use most in the region. The air conditioning system is specifically engineered to maintain a frost-cold cabin even when the sun is at its peak, and the heat-insulating glass helps keep the interior temperature stable. The MBUX infotainment system is center-stage, featuring a tiltable screen that can be adjusted to avoid glare from the sun when the roof is down. Noise insulation with the soft top up is remarkably good, making it a viable car for long cross-border trips in total serenity.

Safety

Safety in the SL63 AMG is comprehensive, featuring a suite of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) that are particularly helpful on the multi-lane highways of the GCC. Standard equipment includes active brake assist, blind-spot monitoring to help navigate fast-moving traffic, and lane-keeping assist which is a blessing on the long, straight roads between cities. The adaptive cruise control system with stop-and-go functionality makes the heavy traffic of the Dubai-Sharjah commute significantly less taxing. In the event of a rollover, the car is equipped with a high-strength steel pop-up roll-bar system that deploys in milliseconds to protect occupants. The car also features advanced stability control and traction management systems that are essential for safely putting down 805 hp on sandy or dusty road surfaces. Unlike many sports cars where safety is an afterthought, Mercedes has integrated its full luxury-sedan safety tech into this high-performance convertible.

The bottom line

This SL63 AMG is the perfect choice for a sophisticated buyer in the GCC who wants supercar-level power in a prestigious, daily-driveable package. With its low mileage and popular white-on-white aesthetic, it represents one of the most attractive and modern open-top performance cars currently on the market.
