Summary

This Mitsubishi Montero Sport represents one of the most reliable and capable family SUVs available in the GCC market today. As a GLS PREMIUM trim, it bridges the gap between rugged off-road performance and the premium comforts required for daily life in the UAE. Its mileage is consistent with GCC driving patterns where long-distance highway commutes between emirates are the norm, yet it maintains the mechanical integrity Mitsubishi is famous for. The striking Blue exterior provides a refreshed look compared to the standard silver or white variants while remaining a respectable choice for future resale. Choosing this model means opting for a vehicle that can handle the school run during the week and navigate desert trails on the weekend with equal ease. For a buyer seeking a modern, seven-seater SUV that offers a genuine 4WD system without the inflated price tag of larger competitors, this is a standout opportunity.

This Car vs Other 2022 Montero Sports

At approximately 106,556 km, this vehicle sits comfortably within the expected range for a well-maintained 2022 model in the GCC, where the average annual mileage often reaches 25,000 km due to our extensive highway networks. While some examples on the market may show lower figures, those are often city-bound vehicles that suffer from more stop-and-go wear, whereas this car’s mileage reflects the smoother engine cycles of regional travel. The Blue paintwork is a sophisticated alternative to the common fleet colors, helping it stand out in used car listings while retaining strong appeal for the next owner. Being a GCC-spec vehicle, it has been engineered to handle the specific cooling demands of our region, ensuring that the engine and transmission stay at optimal temperatures even during the peak of summer. This specific example has clearly been utilized as intended, serving as a reliable partner for cross-country journeys across the UAE.

GLS PREMIUM vs Lower Trims

The GLS PREMIUM trim is a significant step up from the base and mid-range versions, offering features that are essential for the GCC's climate and lifestyle. Most notably, this trim often includes the upgraded leather-appointed interior and power-adjustable seating which provides a more upscale feel than the fabric found in lower trims. The inclusion of a 360-degree bird's-eye view camera system makes maneuvering this large SUV in tight city parking structures considerably easier, a feature often missing on the standard GLS. You also benefit from the premium infotainment system which integrates seamlessly with modern smartphones, ensuring navigation across the GCC is always up to date. Furthermore, the aesthetic is enhanced with larger alloy wheels and chrome accents that give the GLS PREMIUM a more authoritative presence on the road. For the discerning buyer, these additions represent not just luxury, but a tangible increase in the vehicle's future trade-in value.

Montero Sport vs Segment Rivals

When compared to segment rivals like the Toyota Fortuner or the Nissan Terra, the Montero Sport stands out for its superior ride quality and advanced Super Select II 4WD system. While the Fortuner is a formidable competitor, many GCC drivers find the Mitsubishi's multi-link rear suspension offers a significantly more comfortable experience on paved highways without sacrificing off-road agility. The 3.0L V6 engine provides a smooth power delivery that is better suited for high-speed cruising between Dubai and Abu Dhabi than the smaller four-cylinder options found in some rivals. Additionally, the interior packaging of the Montero Sport feels more modern, with an ergonomic layout that prioritizes driver visibility and passenger comfort. Its smaller turning radius also gives it a distinct advantage in urban environments compared to larger, more cumbersome body-on-frame SUVs in this category.

Running Costs & Resale

Running a Montero Sport in the GCC is remarkably cost-effective due to Mitsubishi’s massive service footprint across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Oman. The 3.0L V6 engine is designed to run efficiently on standard petrol grades available at any local station, making it a practical choice for high-frequency drivers. Real-world fuel consumption is competitive for its class, especially on long highway stretches where the aerodynamic profile helps maintain efficiency. Service intervals are standardized and predictable, with parts readily available at both authorized centers and reputable independent garages throughout the region. Historically, the Montero Sport is one of the slowest depreciating vehicles in the SUV market, often retaining up to 60-65% of its value after three years of ownership. This strong resale performance is driven by the model’s legendary reputation for durability in the harsh Middle Eastern climate.

Performance & Capability

Under the hood, the 3.0-liter 6-cylinder engine delivers reliable performance that is perfectly calibrated for the region’s terrain. The Super Select 4WD-II system is a class-leading feature, allowing the driver to switch between 2WD and 4WD at speeds up to 100 km/h, which is incredibly useful when transitioning from tarmac to sandy tracks. With its generous ground clearance and impressive approach and departure angles, this SUV is more than capable of handling weekend excursions into the dunes or rocky wadis. On the highway, the 8-speed automatic transmission ensures that the engine stays in the power band for effortless overtaking, while also keeping RPMs low at cruising speeds to enhance cabin quietness. Whether you are towing a jet ski to the coast or navigating a sudden desert rainstorm, the four-wheel-drive system provides the traction and confidence needed for GCC conditions.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin of this seven-seater is designed with the large GCC family in mind, offering three rows of versatile seating that can be reconfigured to prioritize cargo or passengers. Mitsubishi’s air conditioning systems are widely regarded as some of the most powerful in the industry, and this model features dedicated rear cooling vents to ensure all passengers remain comfortable during the 45°C summer months. High-quality materials and soft-touch surfaces throughout the cabin minimize vibrations and road noise, creating a serene environment for long-distance travel. The GLS PREMIUM trim's seats are ergonomically contoured to provide support during long drives across the Emirates, reducing driver fatigue. Ample storage bins, cup holders, and USB charging points are distributed throughout the cabin, catering to the needs of a modern, tech-heavy family. The boot space, even with the third row in use, remains practical for daily groceries, and expands significantly for camping gear when the seats are stowed.

Safety

Safety is a paramount feature for the Montero Sport, which carries a 5-star NCAP rating for peace of mind. This GLS PREMIUM trim is equipped with a suite of active safety technologies, including Blind Spot Warning, which is vital for navigating the fast-moving multi-lane highways of the UAE. The Forward Collision Mitigation system helps prevent accidents in stop-start city traffic by monitoring the distance to the vehicle ahead. Additionally, the car features multiple SRS airbags and a reinforced RISE (Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution) body construction that absorbs energy during a collision. For families, the inclusion of ISOFIX child seat anchors and electronic stability control provides an extra layer of protection on both sand and asphalt. These systems work together to ensure that whether you are on a school run or a cross-border road trip, your passengers are protected by some of the best safety engineering in the segment.

The bottom line

This 2022 Mitsubishi Montero Sport GLS PREMIUM is the ideal choice for a buyer who wants a modern, feature-rich 7-seater with genuine off-road capability and the best resale value in its class. It offers the perfect balance of GCC-specific reliability and premium comfort, making it a highly sensible investment for any family in the region.
